About Me

Hi! My name is Michelle Simmer and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. I have almost 20 years of treating various issues such as depression, trauma, social anxiety and women’s issues. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I like using this therapy because it brings results if the client is willing to examine their negative thought processes. I am also trained in Trauma focused therapy, Solution Focused Therapy. I am also empathetic, warm and supportive. I also use Motivational Interviewing to assist the client with goals and tracking progress.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Psychology and my Master of Arts degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling.

I have also been through a divorce as a child and in my own marriage. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help. I applaud you!

Michelle has been my counselor for a little over two months now. I've come away from each session with a better understanding of myself, my triggers, thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. Even when I come into a session without a full idea of what I'd like to talk about, I come away feeling new purpose. Michelle's counseling proves effective in making me more self-aware, allowing me to create goals that have been instrumental in keeping me motivated, productive, and thinking positively. While I plan to stay in counseling for longer, Michelle's advice is bringing about noticeable change that is giving me more self-awareness and confidence than I've felt in recent years.

Thank you Michelle!

Michelle is a wonderful and understanding counselor with a thorough understanding of, not only CBT, but also the means to communicating these methods to someone new to counseling. In the new boundaries of online therapy, Michelle is a strong support to have. Naming what you dislike about your current actions and feelings is not easy, but Michelle makes the solution of setting future goals attainable. I did not think I had the capacity for kindness to myself, but she took care to re-direct me to the passions I had used for fun and now can rely on once again. Thank you Michelle!
