About me

My name is Minerva M. King, LCSW, and I am a Survivor. Over a decade after earning my master’s degree with honors from Florida Atlantic University I specialize in therapies which include Rapid Trauma Resolution/Hypnosis, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Victims Services, and Certified Sex Offender Treatment, among others. I am also a Qualified Clinical Supervisor securing competency, knowledge and skill in the next generation of Social Workers. All endeavors dedicated toward the improvement of mental health wellness for a better quality of life for all who are ready to realize their potential.

For almost 15 years, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, I serviced individuals and families, face to face in agency and individual private practice settings. Confident that I could make a greater difference in assisting survivors of the pandemic, I transitioned my delivery of services into an E-Counseling practice. My hope is to offer an extended reach of accessible, affordable, and accountable therapeutic services, while respecting your safety and circumstances during this time of crisis.

If you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief and loss (of any type), substance use and/or abuse or trauma, ect..., and are ready for real change, this is an opportunity to rewrite your experience and explore effective options toward a new normal and extraordinary life.

Throughout my practice I’ve had the privilege of serving 1000’s of clients, and many of their families. The most rewarding outcomes in treatment began with negative narratives transitioning into the impressive development of emotional intelligence, hence allowing for newly forged positive story lines. In working with you, I utilize a strength-based approach focused on empowering mind, body and spirit. A commitment that I myself made many years ago in my journey toward healing and happiness. Change can only take place when awareness is achieved. Awareness is the key to improving understanding to self; improving relationship with others; increasing management of thoughts, emotions and behavior.

During our time together I will encourage you to engage in exercises related to the many tools and techniques discovered during our sessions. All resources I provide you are specific to your goals. All information discussed during our sessions will be private and confidential unless there is reason to believe that you, a child, elderly or others may be at risk of being harmed. You will be sharing as much or as little sensitive and intimate information with me, your therapist. throughout our sessions. Initially you may not be used to sharing your most private and intimate details with someone not personally familiar to you. It is not my role as a clinician to make judgments, give advice or force solutions. Rather the therapist’s role is to help you find the best course of action taking into consideration your beliefs, culture, lifestyle, value and revealed circumstances. In therapy the focus is always on you. You may find yourself enjoying the therapeutic time that is solely devoted to you.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Minerva King. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Minerva Kong is honestly the best therapist I have had the pleasure to work with. She is responsible for me being able to turn my mental health around for the better. She is extremely knowledgeable and professional.

Mrs King has been a great help in helping me understanding some things about myself. She challenges me to break off negative reliances that I have used in the past. Very straightforward and very diligent with getting to the issue that I had.

An absolute gem of a therapist. It was my first positive experience when it came to exploring therapy. Minnie has a way with dissecting and compartmentalizing your issues without neglecting the big picture of things. She is very attentive and is hands on with helping you see patterns you didn’t even know existed. Minnie has played a pivotal role with me tackling taboo issues within my community such as dealing with grief, inner child trauma, codependency, and guilt. I undoubtedly believe Minnie is the ideal therapist without an appetite to do the work. She stays on top of you. And keeps you accountable. I recommend her to anyone waiting to make a move on beginning their healing journey. Just give her a try and let the ensuing results take place.

I worked with Ms. Minerva for 4 weeks and during that short amount of time she helped me discover some things about myself and helped me find a way to address issues without blowing up. She's great. She has that auntie vibe which makes her easy to talk to.

Minnie helped me so much more in our time together than my previous therapist I had for over a year. She is wonderful at making you feel comfortable enough to talk. I appreciate her so much and her positive direction I'm heading from her help.

I've never experienced therapy before, and my sessions with Minnie have been amazing! She is great at picking up on patterns and quirks quickly and asking great questions that get you to think. Talking with her is always a great time and often feels like I'm chatting with a good friend. If you're new to therapy and looking for a therapist who is kind but will also challenge you to dig deep, Minnie is a great fit.

Since this review isn't just for Minnie but for people who wonder what it'll be like working with her, I'll try to give my personal experience and some thoughts about being one of her clients as well.

The first thing you'll notice about Minnie is her energy. She is invested and involved in whatever you tell her, and you'll notice this right away because she tends to ask hard-hitting questions that will make you do a double take from the get-go. She laughs a lot, and won't hide her surprise, discontentment and care-- any of her emotions, really-- when it comes to hearing what you have to say. She will also be writing notes or messages usually to keep track of what you or other clients are saying, but rest assured that she's always paying attention. Be prepared for a pretty no-filter therapist as well, if you're matched with her. She will match your energy and your communication style if you're someone who prefers talk therapy or exercises to be applied in therapy (emotional processing, EMDR, so on).

Sometimes you will have to be direct with her about what you'd like to receive in therapy. A majority of our sessions were simply talk therapy, but when I told her that I wished to work on application or practicing things to empower myself more, she started incorporating things like worksheets, guides and in-session emotional processing or breathing exercises. She also encouraged me to write and share journals with her frequently and often- and I'm not sure she read them in detail 100 percent of the time (because mine are basically novels haha), but she definitely showed she at least glanced through them. I personally started my sessions with her focusing on inner-child work, and you will find that this is her forte because she will always be able to find a way to circle things back to your inner child (and rightfully so). You will see her use her CBT techniques early on.

I will say that as our conversations shifted more towards relationship-related therapy, I started seeing her personal views come out more. I don't mind that, but if you find you're uncomfortable hearing about personal views or with having the rapport of someone like a guardian or friend, be aware that she can use affectionate names or words to show how she cares (she called me "sweet lady" and things like that, which I don't mind but someone else might). She's still very professional, but at times she felt more like a friend than a therapist, so be aware of that as you're doing sessions with her or if that possibility makes you uncomfortable.

When it comes to topics she might not be as familiar with, be prepared for her to send articles, guides or links to resources that might help you when she can't give as much advice. She might also end up seeming overwhelming with some textbook therapy jargon at the beginning, so let her know if that seems too much- she's very good at listening. She will respond to journals faster than lengthy individual text messages, so be prepared for that, too. She made it clear that she often replies to/checks messages twice or maybe three times a day, so if you're someone who wants more frequent text communication than that, keep an eye on this point.

I've loved working with Minnie, and she's given me quite a few tools to focus on advocating for myself as I struggled through life, relationship and career changes. I'm someone who struggles with asserting my needs and focusing on myself, so her can-do attitude about taking care of myself was always inspiring and made me feel better. Overall, if you want someone who's fun and will give you a personal experience that is focused on untangling your inner child wounds and empowering you, Minnie definitely is for you. Thank you so so much, Minnie, for all of your energy, care, and compassion!! I love and appreciate you for every single step you've helped me take on my mental health journey and I hope our paths cross again soon.

Written on Mar 20, 2022 after therapy with Minerva for 1 year

Minnie is a wonderful therapist. I've been seeing her for almost a year. I came to BetterHelp because of two goals I tried to accomplish. Let me tell you. She helped me pretty much accomplish both!
What's more, she helped me to see myself clearer and better. She helped me to accept all parts of me: my childhood, what impact it could have had on me. I refused to admit it or confront it for years. But with Minnie's help, I came to accept who I am, my past.
She is more like a friend than a therapist, chatting with her was so easy and lovely. She always has been so encouraging, and giving me a different perspective on things. She definitely has made me a more confident and stronger person!
She was there for me when my life seemed messy, I couldn't see things clearly. She helped and guided me through. I highly recommend her! Anyone would be so lucky to have Minnie as their therapist! I mean it.

Minnie is THE BEST! I am so grateful to have spend over a year seeing her. Across this time her services have helped me learn so much about myself and what I need to do to make my relationships as happy as they can be. She has helped me realize so much about myself and has provided so many tools to help me become the person I want to be. She provided valuable tools on attachment and codependency. She also really helped me learn about non violent communication and helped me apply better ways to communicate my needs.
LOVE HER!!!!

Thank you!
Cathy

Minnie is the far best therapist I know and ever opened up too and felt really confident and comfortable with. I had a lot of other therapist and I had to pull back and cancel and find some one else . I thank God I found Minnie King ! She’s the best and she’s very supportive! Trust me I’m no one to open up too ! I kept a lot of shit to myself and even from family and wife ! I trusted no one and I still trust no one , but with Minnie it’s different! I can tell her everything and it took me a while to do that. She’s the coolest and most professional therapist I know ! But to me she’s more then a therapist. She’s my friend and the one I can rely on when I need to express myself or talk to some one ! Thank you Minnie

I started counselling with Minnie to overcome issues of self-esteem, self-confidence, anxiety, depression...and some others I can't quite put my finger on at the moment.
I found our sessions to be extremely helpful as she is a very patient, attentive, genuine, and understanding. I think that facing underlying mental health issues is quite a difficult thing, but with the right environment, tools, and support system, you are sure to succeed in your journey of healing. During our sessions, I felt seen, understood, capable, human. I fought to hold back my tears a few times but inevitably gave in!
Minnie has a sense of humour that is sure to bring you joy, and a vibrant personality to match. She has helped me uncover and address several problem areas of mine - some even stemming from childhood. There has been an active effort to stay in touch, and an endless supply of supportive messages - she truly goes above and beyond to help me better myself! As a result, I now feel absolutely confident in my abilities, my worth, and my boundaries, my relationships (current and future).
I am simply full of gratitude! There are many tools that I can use in my future to help me become the best version, and truest version of myself that I can be.
I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a counsellor who can really tailor the sessions for you - and she will do it without you even noticing or asking!

My experience with Minnie is the main reason why I advocate for this platform! I wish that more individuals will have the opportunity to sit a session with her.

I was hesitant to start therapy for a variety of reasons. However my main anxieties stemmed from the fear that a therapist might not know how to deal with my internal crazy. Eventually, I took the courage to start therapy with Minnie and she has exceeded my expectations. Her outstanding knowledge and expertise blew me away, ultimately shifting my mind set from complete isolation into a realm of hope, positivity and mental well-being. My conditions with trauma, OCD and anxiety had taken over my life, and I never thought cognitive behavioral therapy would make a difference in such a short amount of time. Yet with Minnie’s unquestionable sympathy and support, I noticed a huge spiritual and psychological growth within me.
