About me

Miriam grew up in Southern California and received her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2002. She has been licensed in California since 2006. Miriam currently resides in the Bay Area, and her in-person practice is in San Rafael, one of Marin County's major cities.

Miriam's interest in grief deepened after volunteering at a grief camp for children who had lost a parent or sibling. It was then when she herself realized that she had losses that she had not fully processed. In doing her own grief work and further studying grief and loss, she realized it was one of her passions to help others cope with loss in healthy and constructive ways.

Miriam has worked for over 13 years in hospitals and outpatient medical centers, providing support to patients with a serious illness and end-of life issues. She also provides support to and facilitates groups for caregivers, and encourages them to care for themselves as much as they care for their loved ones who have a serious illness.

With individuals, Miriam utilizes different theories based on the needs of each client, since everyone responds differently to each approach. Some of them include strengths based, person -centered and cognitive-behavioral. With couples, she makes sure each partner is heard and has the chance to express themselves in a safe space.

Please note Miriam’s primary method of providing counseling is by a video session, after having some initial exchanges by messaging to understand her client’s needs. She has availability for video and telephone sessions on weekends only. She responds to messages during the week between the hours of 7am and 8pm. Miriam is happy to provide online worksheets and offer suggestions for coping strategies in between video sessions.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Miriam Siyam. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Miriam is truly a person that listens and understands how I think, as well as provides ways to work through the issues I run into during the worst of times. I wouldn't have any other therapist address how I mentally perceive myself and my life.

I was glad to find Miriam during some of the toughest days of my life. She is helpful, caring and a good listener. Phone sessions with Miriam were insightful and she went above and beyond to provide me with some great resources.

Miriam is an empathetic listener with a great ability to help guide towards self-realization. One of my biggest challenges was finding the right person to work with. Therapy always had a curation issue, Betterhelp matched me initially with someone who I didn't connect with. I was a little discouraged and gave it another go and found Miriam. I am incredibly thankful I did.

I'd highly recommend her to anyone and in these uncertain times of isolation having an outside listener is invaluable.
