About Me
Hello, I’m Mitchica Smith, LCSW. Having used therapeutic services myself, I never felt the therapists personalized my sessions. They felt like basic customer service. I decided to become a therapist at 15-yrs-old. As a United States Air Force veteran, I opened my own clinic, Total Commitment Consulting Services, in 2001 and I received my Licensed Clinical Social Worker license in 2006 while I was employed at Child Protective Services.
I offer personal individualized attention to my clients. My approach to helping is trauma-informed, client-specific, evidence based, cognitive-behavioral, and solution oriented. Meaning that we will focus on developing specific strategies and skills for problem resolution. Understanding how going through a traumatic experience can affect how one relates to others, resulting in healthier and more productive relationships is imperative to move from victim to survivor to advocate for healing.
Most people maintain health insurance to take care of their physical health. However, one’s mental health is often seen from a negative perspective which causes a barrier to getting help. My vision from the time my company began has been to help our communities, their families and their children adapt and adjust to the challenges of life and the healing from going through a traumatic experience. I have a strong commitment to maintaining an ethical and effective clinical practice and my service to the larger community.
I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD, and ADHD. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. Additionally, I am also a Clinically Certified Domestic Violence Counselor working from my private practice. I work with both victims and female perpetrators as well as with the children who have witnessed relationship violence.
It takes courage to seek help. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you as you move forward and closer to healing in mind, body, and soul. I am a professional having learned skills from education and life lessons. However, you are the expert on your life. Where we start will be up to you as are the goals you are wanting to reach. I look forward to working with you!

Mitchica is engaging, supportive, and an all-around wonderful person.
Words cannot express what Mitchica means to me and my family. I always feel she understands me and tries to help me see a bigger picture to my issues. She is just amazing.
She’s easy to talk to and has helped me improve my life a great deal. Very thankful
She is impressive, insightful, kind. I am grateful for her help.
When I first met Mitchica she was better than any other therapist I’ve seen. I love her approach and she’s very kind, compassionate, understanding and if your up for self improvement this woman is the one to see for therapy as I also like that she’s upfront and honest as well. She helped my parents and I learn to communicate better and made me aware that yes they have been overprotective and tough but it was because they didn’t know how to show their love and that it was their way of discipline and they are coming from a good place. Glad I found someone that can guide my parents and I to strengthen our relationship.
She's the best. It really makes a difference in my life to have a Black woman therapist!
Veteran female of color and a straight shooter, which is everything I've been wanting and needing from my therapist. Very well matched.
She is fantastic. I have worked with a few different counselors over the years but she is one of the best. Her ability to listen nonjudgmentally and then offer useful feedback in a patient and compassionate way is very notable and commendable. A+
Mitchica has been an amazing help over the last roughly year I've been working with her. I'm amazed that I was able to find someone like her as my first try when looking for a counselor. She's very quick to understand what help I need and especially the type of help I need in really thinking through my thoughts and coming up with actionable plans. She makes it very easy for me to be totally honest and upfront with both my emotions and actions, and I never feel judged or looked down upon in any sense. She's very no nonsense and this may strike people the wrong way, but for my needs that's exactly what I was looking for and I found it. Mitchica is an excellent counselor and I will recommend her to anyone who asks.
I really love that Mitchica regularly checks in on me and answers her messages quickly. I also love that we have several ways to communicate, such as appointments and by message. I was able to find something that worked for me. I find her honest in her messages as well as patient. Between a therapist who understands and respects me and the Groupinars, I feel helped.
So, I had experienced the loss of my mother, and to say that I was close to my mom is an understatement. Mitchica came at my case with understanding of what I didn’t need to hear any more of and what I needed to hear from that point on.
Direct and to the point which I greatly appreciate. Great sessions so far. This is the third time in my life that I've tried therapy/counseling (first time on BetterHelp) and I finally feel like I have a professional who I can trust and let my guard down with. Really happy with the progress I've made do far with her help.
Mitchica is the first counselor I've had in a long time that really makes me feel "seen" and validated. She's clear, honest, and can present to you a zoomed-out perspective of your life. Mitchica is the kind of person who has the ability to draw the answers out of YOU, rather than the other way around. I highly recommend her to anyone who really wants to get down to business and isn't afraid to hear and deal with the truth.
Mitchica is very understanding and proficient. Assisted me without me knowing through real listening. Best investment I've made in 20 years.
Mitchica is a great counselor and offers very practical advice to improve your behavioral health. I enjoyed our sessions and plan to return to BetterHelp in a few months!
Mitchica is God sent! I've been suffering from depression and low self esteem for many years. She helped me find the clarity and confidence I need in order to get through the day. She helped me realize my true potential and that I'm worthy and valuable in this world. I'm very grateful that I was assigned to her.
I had a great experience with Mitchica. She is very compassionate and understanding and had a very calming demeanor. I felt very secure and confident talking with her and the feedback she provided was valuable and helpful.
Very kind, respectful, and understanding! Mitchica is wonderful!
