Hi there! Thank you for visiting my page is very nice to meet you. Im Dr. Monica Lucia Egner and I want you to get to know me. I was born and raised in Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico, which is a border town that allowed me to live in 2 cultures at the same time. I lived in Mexico for 26 years and then moved to the US to San Antonio for 6 years and then moved to Austin.
I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Doctor in Psychology. I have an overall combined clinical experience of 10 years. I obtained my BS in Clinical Psychology and continued my education in UTSA graduate school and I was awarded a MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Two months after I started my 5 year journey to complete my Ph.D. in Psychology and here I am.
By practicing in Mexico and now in the US, gave me the opportunity to appreciate the duality of both countries and the importance of culture and values, which is reflected in how people acquire their core values to navigate in life.
The cultural factor plays a big role in my therapeutic approach. I personally experienced challenges when I moved to the US. Now I encountered in my practice that is a fact that it is a very common stressor for the people that immigrate to the US and face a cultural shock for having to adapt to new social constructs, moral views, and values and how this impacts the perception f self, having identity issues and the need to adapt to be accepted instead of embracing who you are.
I strive to expand my ability to understand different contexts and backgrounds in order to grow and help others to navigate those challenges. Working with all kinds of populations, economic statuses, genders, races, and cultures helps me to have a better understanding of mental illness and integrate all those factors to have a unique view on how those elements influence behavior, how is expressed, and the main goal, to have a genuine understanding of the meaning of the uniqueness of the challenges people experience.
I had worked in multiple settings with all populations from children to geriatrics. For a large amount of my career, I worked in psychiatric hospitals dealing with severe personality disorders and acute mental illness. I also have extensive experience in crisis interventions, aggression, anger management, major depressive disorders, anxiety, identity issues, defiant behavior in adolescents, couples therapy, family therapy, guidance and victims of abuse and trauma, borderline personality, and relationships.
That was a summary for you to know from where I coming from, and my perception of life. I can relate with you because I have struggled and faced many challenges myself, I had made mistakes, I had made bad decisions like, but never allowed myself to be defined by my mistakes or my past. I live, learn, and move forward to make tomorrow a better day. I believe in change and to become empowered to improve, take risks, get out of my comfort zone, and continue with the desire to evolve and grow.
I want to establish a genuine bond and to make you feel safe to be yourself. I want you to feel empowered to let yourself shine, to fight for your beliefs, learn to overcome life challenges, and most important to love yourself. I know it can be hard to break old habits but not impossible, gain control over those old thoughts, and replace them with positive affirmations because YOU are in control, no excuses. It will be my honor to be part of your journey.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Monica Lucia Egner. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
By far the best therapist I’ve ever had from BetterHelp, I’m so happy I selected her. I’ve had one appointment with her and I feel more understood and more compassion from her than the months I’ve spent with other therapist through BetterHelp. She truly makes an effort to listen and be empathetic before helping you through and she’s always there for you.
Dr. Egner is nurturing and supportive. She gives me the guidance and the tools I need to improve my mental health. I am so happy I reached out to her. The past six months have changed my perspective, helped me cope with my anxiety and improved my quality of life a lot.
I’ve been in therapy for a while now, I’ve made great progress. Dr. E is amazing. She has helped me in so many ways. She’s the most understanding & open minded therapist I’ve ever had. I love her approach.
I had another live session with Dr. Egner, and our session was great again!! I totally recommend her, you won’t regret it at all.
Dr. Egner is the best. Even though I consider myself to be an open person, I was very apprehensive to accept help and start therapy, but she makes the process extremely rewarding and worth every hour of my time. She is funny, honest, upbeat, personable, and candid, and helps you feel like you're her friend talking to her through FaceTime while she listens to you and helps you navigate life. She says it how it is- which is one of the things I appreciate most about her- and will ALWAYS tell you the truth, really bringing a humanizing and friendly side to the patient-doctor relationship. Dr. Egner makes a genuine effort to know all sides of her patients, and this is obvious in the way that she approaches each session with so many inquisitive questions and care. She even checks in on you between sessions, asking how you're doing, and always extends herself to us and making sure we know that she is available for any help that we need. I've already seen so many improvements in myself by having Dr. Egner around- her positive attitude, generosity, kindness, and love has been a great influence in my life and she inspires me to take initiative of my mental health and do better for myself. Thank you Dr. Egner!
Dr. Egner is such a great therapist. Since day one I felt I could trust her. This is my third week with her and I have felt more motivated to get better and healthier. She is very understanding, also she's cool!
Dr. Egner has been really good to me so far. She’s exactly what I needed.
Such a great therapist and person. She gives you good advice and is helpful. Always willing to help out and checks in, even if you don’t need it at the moment. Definitely recommend!
Working with Dr. Egner has been amazing. Therapy is always so difficult but when you match with a doctor who is attentive and truly caring, there’s so much positive outcome that is brought to life . Dr. Egner has helped me tremendously in a short amount of time. She has helped me become more aware of not only current issues but past issues that affect my every day life/actions/thoughts. I look forward to each session. Many thanks for your hard work and attentiveness
I was so nervous to start therapy, and really admit that I needed it. Dr. Egner has been so welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. I’ve never wanted to be my strongest self more than I have since working with her. She is blunt and honest while being so kind. I’m so glad she had availability and that I was lucky enough to jump on here when I did.
What can I say, I have been talking to Monica for a few weeks now, and already she has changed my life for the better! She is such an amazing person, listens to me when I need it, gives me advice which helps me in my life, and I couldn’t imagine my journey without her now. I would highly recommend you reach out to her :)
Monica has been super attentive even when I shy away from communication. She always checks in between our sessions and I appreciate that. I don’t think she realizes how much that helps even if I don’t always respond because usually it’s those moments I feel
Very alone and to know she goes that extra mile pushes me to express myself. Thank you madam.
