About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia with 21 years of experience. I have worked with various populations throughout that time, including college students, families, seniors, and male inmates in a state correctional facility.

I have experience with the gamut of mental health issues ranging from anxiety and depression to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, gender dysphoria, substance abuse issues, sexual addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and relationship issues (be it in the family or between two or more partners). I have also worked with folks regarding sexual issues in their relationships and folks considering open relationships and polyamory.

I have two Master’s degrees: A Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. If requested, I can help integrate faith into therapy and have been trained extensively to incorporate faith into treatment.

I have a passion for helping people who feel ashamed of where they are in life currently. Shame is an intense psychological issue, and it cripples a lot of us at some time in our lives. I am a very sex-positive therapist and believe a great relationship takes a neurochemical and emotional connection.

I utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral approach to most issues; however, I will also view clients through the framework of Structural Family Therapy (https://www.minuchincenter.org) and Systemic Family Therapy (https://www.thebowencenter.org), both of which I trained intensively in my graduate program. I have been trained in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy and will utilize mindfulness (a component of DBT) in my sessions at times. Furthermore, I have training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Therefore, I typically try to discern (catch in the “act,” so to speak) when clients act in a manner where they are moving closer to their desired goal instead of focusing on the presenting problem when therapeutically appropriate. Lastly, I have been trained in Multisystemic Therapy, which looks at the interplay between the family home and other agencies such as the school or the Department of Juvenile Justice.

I utilize humor frequently in therapy to help my clients feel comfortable in their sessions. My style is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for my clients to focus on their feelings and work towards their therapy goals.
