Nancy Hoover, LMHC
About me
I retired three years ago from the largest hospital system in Jacksonville, Florida. I was employed as a mental health therapist for twenty-six years in their behavioral health division.
Since my retirement our country has endured the hardship of a pandemic, the very slow recovery from all that that entailed, and and now the uncertainty of international issues. There is evidence of widespread unhappiness, doubt, fear of what the future holds, and, generally, joylessness. Therapists are needed now more than anytime I can recall and that leads me to my desire to get back into a profession I truly loved.
As a therapist I learned how to establish rapport quickly and get to the heart of my client’s concerns within the first session. I provided for them a comfort zone and, as well, a sense that they would be heard and understood. There were also many opportunities to show them I had a sense of humor which to many was an added comfort.
My preferred therapy was and remains Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and my source for help in that regard was David W. Burns, MD. author of The Feeling Good Handbook.
I look forward to returning to my beloved profession.
