About me

Hi. I am Dr. Nancy Picard, and I am a psychologist who practices in the State of Illinois. I received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in adult development and aging. I've worked with all populations of people seeking help, from families with children as young as 4, to high school and college age students and teens, to people of working age, and seniors.

Many seniors at this time are reluctant to use therapy resources. If that is your situation, or if you are seeking help for a loved one who is concerned about issues in aging such as memory loss, please feel free to schedule an appointment with me to discuss your concerns for yourself or a loved one.

Although I am a female and white, I've been studying multicultural issues my entire life, having spent time in Europe in high school in a Department of Defense School, all the way through my service in the Peace Corps as an English teacher and multicultural trainer, through my MS degree in Counseling studying eating disorders in young women of color. I've worked with veterans and families surrounding trauma and PTSD, and have also helped children and young people of all genders through recovery from situations of domestic violence.

One of my specialties is career counseling. I also have worked in management and executive coaching. As an executive coach, I sponsored and took part in a study of people of color in senior management positions. However you've come to be matched to a therapist, I'm here to help directly, or to find someone who can help you through finding a journey that is a helpful, and healing, as your destination. Reaching out for help can be difficult and even a little bit scarey. I hope to make your choice to seek help feel like a step in a positive direction.

Personally, I like to walk my dogs, run and exercise, and enjoy the outdoors. Meditation and mindfulness and yoga are things I practice and help others appreciate as they work through things we talk about (or text about). I hope that helps know a little bit about me.
