About me

Hello!

My name is Natalia Balasundaram. I am a licensed psychotherapist in California with over 10 years of experience. Since 2010, I’ve worked with Adults suffering from the effects of Trauma, Complex PTSD, and Dissociative Disorders. As of 2018, I completed trainings in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma Resiliency Model, in order to further my education on Trauma Informed Care. In addition to treating Trauma, I also work with a variety of other Mental Health Issues including: Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Relationship and Attachment Issues, Substance Abuse, Eating Disorders and Dual Diagnosis.

My counseling style is direct, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. My goal is to create an inviting, safe, and warm environment where clients feel accepted, respected and seen. I use an eclectic approach to therapy and pull from various therapeutic orientations including: Trauma Informed Care, Positive Psychology, Person Centered, Existential, and Cognitive-Behavioral therapies. As a Creative, I also offer coaching through Art Expression and as method for breaking through personal blocks, processing emotions, and building resilience.

At the beginning, I wasn’t having much success in getting the “personality” of a therapist that I felt comfortable with. I was ready to give up, but my son encouraged me to try again.

I am blown away by my sessions with Natalia. Loved ones in my life have told me many times over the years that I should consider getting help through therapy. I have been skeptical and defensive on the matter and have tried counseling before but nothing seamed to stick quite like BetterHelp. From my very first session with Natalia almost 3 weeks ago I knew I was on the path to healing. Natalia expresses a natural gift of discernment. She has simply orchestrated our sessions by listening, understanding, and getting me to think and feel deeper than I ever have before. 10/10 would recommend!
