About me
Hello there! My name is Nicholas Denson, but feel free to call me Nick. I am so pleased that you are reaching out, I recognize that it isn’t always easy to do so. Therapy is a process and starts well before you start talking to a therapist. One of the fist steps is deciding what therapist and style work best for you to build a therapeutic alliance that will help you reach your goals.
I am a professional counselor in the District of Columbia and Nevada as well as an art therapist. My experience runs al little over 6 years and includes work with children, adolescents, adults, and families individually and in groups. I have worked in settings such as partial hospitalization programs, hospitals, support groups, and foster care agencies to name a few. The clients that I have seen include those who struggle with mental illness, sexuality, addiction, relationship issues, trauma, cancer recovery and stress related to living abroad.
Experience has taught me that therapy is not a one size fits all. I believe that the best kind of therapy meets you where you are at and that is what I seek to provide my clients. My counseling style is creative, eclectic, warm, and client-centered. My strength is working with people find creative ways to build their capacity and work through the healing process.
I am looking forward to working with you! Please let me know how I can best support you!

Nick always validated my feelings, and helped me to develop tools and strategies to manage depression and change my negative thought patterns. I’ve really appreciated Nick’s support!
Over the last year and a half, Nick has been an immense help in getting me through some extremely difficult personal hurdles. His patience and openness has guided me toward multiple moments of advocating for myself and preparing for my future in positive ways.
Nick is a gifted person and therapist. Just two sessions, but he sure can cut through my chaos and internal smokescreens in a gentle, respectful way that cultivates trust. Looking forward to the journey.
Outstanding
I've tried different counselors in the past but no one is as effective as Nick. He's really great at assessing my thought patterns and giving informed feedback. He makes me feel both comfortable and optimistic. I'm really grateful for him.
Nick is caring, attentive, supportive, and gives productive suggestions. It's only been 2 weeks, but I feel like I'm handling my divorce much healthier than if I were to do it without him. 10/10
It was wonderful to speak to someone who understood me and my lifestyle right away. It's rare to not get caught up teaching the professionals when you live an unconventional life to start with.
Very attentive, understanding and empathetic! I feel understood and am given the room to grow & tackle my issues head on with Nicholas. Would 10/10 recommend!
Thank you for listening to me. I know I’m weird and don’t know how to convey everything I’m thinking. So. Thank you for your validation and conversation.
Supportive, knowledgeable, and helpful in finding anxiety solutions that worked uniquely for me!
Nicholas Denson has been extremely kind, respectful, and wonderful to discuss my issues with. Right from the start I felt comfortable telling him all my concerns and what I was dealing with. He made me feel validated in my experiences coping with anxiety and at no point did he ignore anything I explained to him. Great experience overall.
Nicholas has been really understand and supportive. He wasn’t the right match for what I needed to work on but he was helpful while I was looking for someone to help with my ADHD and continued to check in with me.
