Hello! If you are exploring Better Help you may be experiencing some difficulties in your life and you're looking for a counselor to help you sort through things. I wanted to tell you a little about myself to help you decide if I may be a good fit for you.
My name is Nicole Barksdale and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in California. I have over 15 years of professional experience that include trauma, abuse, and the juvenile and adult justice systems. I’ve been providing psychotherapy for a wide range of issues and populations for the last 8 years. For the first few years of my clinical career I worked with children and families both in office and on school campuses. Since that time, I have been working with adults in the State Prison system. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, career challenges, criminal and destructive thinking patterns and personality disorders.
I would describe my therapeutic approach as goal oriented and client centered. Treating everyone with respect, sensitivity and compassion is at the forefront of my practice. My counseling style is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy among others. It is important to me that the client is included in the treatment planning and goal monitoring process.
My goal in therapy is to create a safe space, free from judgment or rejection, for you to explore any challenges you may be facing and help you find new skills to deal with them. I know how hard it is to find a counselor that you feel comfortable with and I applaud you for taking the first step. I would be honored to work with you through this stage in your life.

Nicole is wonderful. I finally feel like I’m making progress rather than just talking about my issues. She is honest but kind and very prompt with her responses.
Nicole meets me where I am and is extremely kind, understanding but also pushes me to reflect during sessions and open my mind to new possibilities. Highly recommend working with her.
Nicole read my situation very quickly and gave me the tools I needed in the moment to get me back on track. She also gave me some great insight and exercises to really get to the bottom of my concerns. I would recommend her to family and friends and my Fire Dept coworkers!
I've just starting working with Nicole and have had a really positive experience so far. From our initial interaction she was welcoming, grounded and had amazing follow-through. She has a great way of making me feel comfortable and not judged. When she suggests strategies, lessons, things to research, etc. it is always posed as a "here are some tools, what are your thoughts?" rather than a "I think you should do this" or "You need to do this."
Nicole really listens and askes good questions to help me think critically. So far, working with Nicole has been a great experience and I highly recommend her!
