About Me

Welcome to the wonderful world of Counseling! I am Nikolya T. Sparks, LPC, NCC. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Grambling State University & a Master of Arts in Counseling & Guidance from Louisiana Tech University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor & Nationally Certified Counselor with 20+ years of clinical experience in both direct care & administrative roles. I am enthusiastic about the helping profession & incorporate a comprehensive approach to helping others reach their full potential. I enjoy collaborating with persons-served to create an open & safe environment where thoughts & feelings are shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling & happier life as you take the first step towards change/growth. I am here to support & empower you in that journey!
Professional Counseling is a healthcare specialty centered on providing mental & emotional guidance & therapy to treat mental, emotional, & addictive disorders. Significant diseases & conditions treated by Professional Counselors include anxiety, ADHD, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), behavioral disorders, phobias, bereavement, marital hardship, attempted suicide, drug/ alcohol addiction, sexual abuse/trauma, unresolved grief, & executive/professional coaching. Treatment modalities include psychotherapy, utilizing evidence-based modalities in therapy with children, & families such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), crisis management, marital counseling, individual/family therapy sessions, anger, & stress management. Continuing education, professional development, & engagement ensures that I am proficient in each of the aforementioned areas.
I am a native New Orleanian & proud member of the #WHODAT Nation. I encourage a healthy work-life balance & indulgence in self-care. Some of my self-care activities include prayer, journaling, spending time with my family, festivals, spoiling my two fur babies Bernie & Lady Lola, reading, planning (I’m a proud Planner Babe), traveling & serving my community. I am a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I am also mother to one son, Brian Christopher. I'm also fortunate enough to have several "bonus" kids.

I spent 3 months talking to Nikolya Sparks, and it was 3 months well spent. I was nervous about the whole therapy process when I first started, but she quickly made me feel comfortable about opening up and tackling my problems one at a time. I feel more confident in myself then I've ever felt in my life, and its honestly a great feeling. Thank you for all of your help, you've changed my life for the better.

Nikolya is awesome. She helped me build a mental health toolkit and sort through a lot in a short amount of time. She has a no bullshit yet compassionate style, and is really great at making connections. And just a dope human to talk to!

It's still early in our sessions, but already I can tell Nikolya is a good fit for me. She listens and gives me solid ways of actualizing / practicing life skills. As someone who has dealt with adversity and chronic pain, I feel she not only comes from a place of experience, but a place of heart. She is intelligent, eloquent, and I feel safe in continuing to learn from her (:
