I believe in the transformative power that lives within each of us. I believe in a whole-person approach to wellness. I believe in you.
This is where we begin our journey together.
I’m a therapist with an interest in positive psychology and creativity. I see individual therapy as a partnership where we work side by side to reach your goals. While my approach is focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and similar modalities, it's also shaped by my experience as a creative writing coach and my studies in mindfulness meditation with my mentor, a Theravada Buddhist monk.
Prior to entering the behavioral health field, I was an arts journalist, teaching artist, program coordinator, academic sales manager and non-profit leader. I still love writing and connecting with creative people. I also have the experience of being a military veteran, which helps me to connect with those who serve.
After graduating with a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University (Detroit), I completed the Addictions Certificate program at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). In 2018, I earned a Master's of Strategic Communication from Michigan State University (East Lansing).
One of the turning points in my career was getting a job as a crisis line counselor, because my conversations with people seeking support made me realize I’d found my calling in life. I later gained more extensive clinical experience in my roles as outpatient therapist, crisis interventionist and home-based therapist. I've completed training in various types of therapy and interventions, including tele-therapy, solution-focused, mindfulness, trauma, substance use disorders, healthy aging and suicide prevention. It’s been an honor for me to work with people of all ages and from all walks of life.
My highest commitment is to collaborate with individuals who want to realize and build on their own resilience and strengths. My hours are currently weekdays / evenings only.

Norene has been so consistent with me and she is so incredibly easy to talk to. She has gotten me through so much and has never given up on me.
Norene is patient, understanding, and nonjudgmental. I like how she sends a reflection message every Friday.
Norene is one of the best therapist I have ever worked with. Almost a year later, it is still true and I have experienced amazing transformation.
Norene has a fantastic way of making me feel heard, safe and provide solutions that I hadn’t thought of before. She responds to messages so quickly and takes the time to really give a well thought out response each time. When we are video chatting each week she make sure to give me 100% of her focused and continue to reassure me when I’m feeling lost, confused or emotional. I look forward to my time with her every week and can’t think her enough for helping me find Ways to be the best version of myself
Norene Cashen (MA, MSW, LMSW) is helping step through a tough time in my life by listening and most importantly providing tools and strategies.
