Hi. I’m Patricia Stern, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois, with over 25 years of experience as a therapist. I see older adolescents and adults of all ages. They may be anxious, depressed, grieving a loss or trying to cope with stress. They may have health or medical concerns; or just be looking to improve their life skills and to make decisions and plans that are helpful for them.
I see myself as a resource and a tool in the arsenal of my clients’ self-care skill set. I’m responsive (“talky”) for a therapist. I engage with and care about my clients, have a wide acceptance of ambiguity and an ambition to help people arrive at a more fulfilling and satisfactory life. I’m a strong ally; protective of my clients when they’re feeling vulnerable and challenging when they need to take initiative. I comfort my clients when they’re sad and help them to clarify their thinking when they feel cloudy about what choices to make. I ask clients to set their goals and I help them to achieve those. If you’re ready to make changes in your life and need emotional tools and resources to do that, reach out and let’s work together to move you forward.
Oh and just so I seem like a human – I live in an old house, have a cat that sleeps next to my keyboard, and have a boyfriend who plays Blues and Jazz. I love the outdoors; great music (right now I’m listening to Julian Bream); birds at my birdfeeder, good friends and great food.

She is exactly who and what I needed. No none sense and comforting.
love her style.
Patricia is very responsive and insightful, although the style is pretty fast paced and I would almost say matter of fact. This is definitely not bad as it can help you to focus on the issues that are most pressing for you, but for me it took a little adjusting. Now that I'm used to it I enjoy Patricia's style. We're able to slow down and talk things out when necessary and otherwise quickly come up with strategies I can try out for a while. I've seen a big improvement in my general worldview and feelings of efficacy from my time with Patricia so far.
Patricia has been extremely helpful getting through multiple losses in my life, in adjusting to the changes that come with losing a family member, and in moving forward. Her expertise, experience, and guidance was a signifant asset in dealing with grief and the stresses of the pandemic. I would recommend her to anyone in similar circumstances.
Patricia is kind and nonjudgmental. She offers me a variety of advice and solutions, and I feel supported by her.
She has been amazing! She responds quickly and gives great advice.
Patricia is extremely wonderful. She offers tools and insight to help handle a multitude of situations. She is fully invested in her clients wellbeing and progress.
Patricia has been very comfortable to talk to and has given me valuable guidance. I really would recommend her to anyone.
Thank you for all of your help. You were there for me back when I started and are here for me now. It is all I can ask for.
My counselor Patricia has been very helpful with my new transformation. Easy to speak to and easy to understand. I am grateful for BetterHelp and the fine folks assisting others.
I recommend Patricia.
I feel Patricia is a very genuine person and is a great woman to work with. She’s very caring and concerned with every problem I’ve presented her with and am grateful how she’s been with me. I would highly recommend her for anyone.
Working with Patricia has been a great experience of organizing my thoughts and getting myself back on route.
Patricia is very responsive and a good sounding board. If she doesn't hear from me, she checks in and asks how things are going. She provides sound advice.
I would highly recommend Patricia Stern. She is compassionate and really cares. I have only been with her less than a month but she was what I needed during this episode of depression. I needed A sounding board, a reassurance and a voice of reason when my mind was not working properly. She was all those things and more. She would remind me to eat and recommend something that may actually stay down. If and when my next depression episode comes I will seek her out. Thank you!
Patricia gives me a lot of support. Feels like she is in my corner and can bounce issues off her. Pretty good advice.
I went to a traditional therapist for over a year. Spent a fortune and never seemed to be doing better. In just one month of working with Patricia I am doing tons better. She’s kind, direct, sweet, and extremely knowledgeable. I couldn’t have picked a better therapist.
Patricia has a heart of gold and kindness. When life was hopeless she brought like to the darkness. She gave me hope to go on and care, concern, advice, warmth. She is a dream clinician. I deeply recommend her for anyone struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. She is so incredibly wonderful and I will miss her terribly
Patricia answers me in a timely matter and if I go rogue and don’t write in a few days she reaches out to me to check on how things are, most days I feel like I am talking to an old friend
I have been with Patricia for only a short time and I am so glad I was matched with her. She always responds within a timely manner and sends me encouraging messages throughout the week. I feel like she understands and always knows what to say to get me back on track.
Patricia is really responsive. I think she cares and has given me real insight into family issues I have been dealing with. I like her a lot and I do like using the Betterhelp platform. I think it really makes my life easier because I don't have to drive anywhere. Patricia has good availability for scheduled sessions. I've only been using Betterhelp for a few weeks but so far so good.
I started using BetterHelp because I have a very stressful job and I had some family health issues that were occurring. I was matched with Patricia Stern to which I am so grateful for. I could not imagine a more caring therapist who is completely non-judgmental. She sent me breathing exercises and was readily available for when I needed to vent. I would highly recommend Patricia Stern as a counselor.
