About Me

Due to the circumstances of the COVID-19, I will be more available here on Betterhelp as I am practicing social distancing from my full-time outpatient mental health clinic. I will be taking new subscribers during this time, however, I want to be transparent that my services will be temporary (potentially a month or so, depending on how things unravel). I am here to help you manage your anxiety, panic, stress, and any other emotional reactions to our current situation.

Thank you for your understanding!

As a licensed clinical social worker, I am passionate about helping people work through life’s challenges and struggles. I have spent the past eight years gaining education, training, and experience to help people burdened with mental health struggles and relationship challenges. I received my undergraduate degree in social work from Brigham Young University-Hawaii and my Master's degree in Social Work from San Diego State University.

My approach to therapy is down to earth, non-threatening, genuine, and compassionate. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and supportive therapy. I love educating, supporting, and joining people in the process of improving their lives. My goal in treatment is to help people feel human as they navigate their struggles. I hope to help and support people as they decide to create new thoughts and actions that lead to more fulfilling, balanced, and enjoyable lives.

My professional experiences include working as a school-based mental health therapist for students K-12th grade, a mental health case manager for older adults with severe and persistent mental illness, and a crisis counselor with adults struggling with mental health and substance use crises. I have also worked a few years as a staff member in residential treatment centers working with adolescent boys struggling with mental health and familial difficulties.

Outside of my counseling, you can find me playing guitar and songwriting, surfing, skateboarding, rock climbing, making pottery, and spending time with my wonderful wife, family, and friends.

Written by N.I. on Jan 13, 2020 after counseling with Paul for 4 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, and trauma and abuse

Paul has been a great counselor, he remembers little details about things I’ve shared and offers the support I need and an ear to listen when i just need to vent sometimes. Very professional, I would highly recommend!
