Paul Courtland Soper

(LCSW, LISW, CCTP)

About Me

Hi! My name is Paul and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Texas, and a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) in the state of Ohio. I've been practicing for about 10 years in a variety of settings, including community mental health, psychiatric hospitals and private practice. I offer psychotherapy sessions to adults interested in embarking on a journey of emotional healing. Negative thought and behavior patterns build up over time, and it takes time to retrain your brain and body to engage differently with the world around you. A holistic approach focusing on the mind, body and spirit is essential to recovery, and I try to teach my clients and their chosen families how to empower themselves to improve overall wellness. Everyone’s journey is unique, so I provide a trauma-informed, eclectic and individualized approach to healing. My eclectic approach pulls from CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, Humanistic, Reality Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Positive Psychology.

I recently became certified as a clinical trauma professional (CCTP), and am working toward certifications as a Sex Therapist (CST) and a Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT). I have experience working with non-monogamous couples with various levels of open-ness, and I specialize in treating individuals and couples in the LGBTQ+ community.
I believe that consent, respect and open communication are essential in creating a sex-positive space in your relationship(s), and provide a safe space for you to explore this through talk therapy.

I look forward to working with you!

Paul is really fantastic. I've had minimal and negative counseling experiences in the past. He has a really positive, calming and beautiful energy and is helping me work through some personal and relationship challenges. He allows me to be subjective and positive towards situations I wouldn't be able to on my own. I feel like I can tell him anything and will never be judged, which is super important in a therapist/client relationship. It doesn't matter if I have had a good week or a bad week, I am looking forward to our session. I absolutely recommend Paul!

I love Paul! He’s down to earth, matter of fact, and nonjudgmental. At the same time, he is honest and calls me on it if I’m not being fully honest.

Paul and I are still getting to know each other, but I feel he has an understanding of my situation and speaks my language. It’s been great to just be able to offload thoughts I’ve been keeping to myself for almost a couple of years!!

Paul is kind, attentive and non-judgemental. He has a way of simplifying things that really takes the weight off. He's a very good counsellor with an adaptable approach. He has given me effective ways of improving my life and I come away from each session with homework to work on myself, which means I am constantly improving my wellbeing throughout the week. Thank you Paul!

Paul has been nothing but supportive, and kind to me. Reaching out to me when I felt to downtrodden to initiate conversation. He is a great listener, and shows true concern.

Paul has been amazing to me. I came into counseling feeling so unsure of myself and nervous about opening up and sharing what was bothering me. Paul put me right at ease and treated me with so much respect and dignity. Getting over my misgivings and giving this a try was the best decision I could have made.
