Hi there, my full name is Lupita Pearl Colbert, however, I go by my middle name "Pearl". That's the way my family has always done it, that is, go by our middle names. I was born in Panama but moved to the United States as a baby. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish. I have lived in California the majority of my life. I attended California State University Dominguez Hills, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor's Degree in psychology. I then pursued a Master's Degree with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University. As I was attending graduate school, I took a job in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), working as a behavior therapist with young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It was here that I found my passion for working with children and families. I found that I had a knack for Behavior Modification and enrolled concurrently into a ABA certification program at National University. I completed both my MFT hours and BCBA hours concurrently and am now dual licensed as a marriage and family therapist as well as a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). As a MFT, I worked primarily with children and adolescents. I counseled teens whose primary issues were drug addiction, LGBTQ issues, life stressors (e.g., gang involvement, abuse, etc.), depression, as well as many other mood and personality disorders. I worked with teens trying to get back into school and manage their interpersonal conflict with friends and family. Additionally, I worked with parents, couples and young adults experiencing a variety of daily life issues as well as dealing with traumas of the past. I currently run a social skills program for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder and provide parent training to their families. I have great amount of experience counseling those with ASD, LGBTQ issues, and addiction.
I am a solution focused therapist drawing on influences from Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Behaviorism.
I am empathic and caring and my style is client centered, concentrating on guiding you to your own solutions. I can be funny when you need it and caring when you need it most. I will work with you to identify the best outcomes for your personal therapy and help you carve out a future that you envision as being best suited for you.
I believe that asking for help is the first and hardest step to take. Once you do it though, you may find a life that you never thought possible. Two things people hate are "Change" and "The way things are". Which one is it for you? Let's talk.
- Parenting issues
- Self esteem
- Coping with life changes
I also have experience in Stress, Anxiety, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Anger management, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Depression, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, ADHD

I liked counseling with Pearl.
Pearl has been nothing short of amazing! She is super easy to speak with and on many levels I feel like I don't have to work so hard for her to understand me or what it is I'm trying to express. She somehow gets it and provides practical responses that have helped me and my family throughout the last 4 months that we've connected. Her tips and insight to behavioral change have been key on my healing journey.
Pearl is so easy to talk to and makes me feel comfortable talking about whatever. She’s supportive and gives great advice. Very glad I got her as my therapist!
Pearl has been an incredible help so far and has a directness that is accompanied with compassion. She has really been helpful in challenging me to look deeply within myself and open up.
Pearl is genuinely interested in my well being and cared about my progress and behavior change. This is my second month with her and will not be my last. I'm committed because I see the value in having my treatment continue with her professional help.
