About me

Hi, I am an accredited member of BACP, and have been qualified as a person-centred therapist since 1993. I have experience in helping people with very distressing issues. Much of my work has been with people who have experienced historical sexual abuse and rape. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgement. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
I know that it takes time to learn to trust both the person you're talking to and yourself as you go through the process of self acceptance. I work with the issues somebody is dealing with, such as self worth, relationship issues, illness and disability , bereavement and grief. I aim to facilitate you in discovering more about yourself and identifying what is right for you. This means talking together to explore your needs, and to challenge some of your preconceived thoughts and beliefs. Sometimes I will incorporate creative forms of expression if it feels right for us both. Our relationship is crucial to the success of the therapy.
What you can expect from me is a warm and welcoming space to talk openly, to experience your feelings, and to be understood and respected. I will work together with you to help you choose what you feel is the right direction for you. I am plain speaking ( no jargon!) but compassionate and approachable. However, I will always encourage and respect openness and reflection. I don't believe I am an expert, but that we can together work towards helping you have faith in your own judgement. Therefore, I do not give techniques or specific strategies for how to achieve your aims. It's about finding what is right for you. I really look forward to getting to know you and help you to be comfortable with yourself.
