About me

Hi, and welcome! I'm so glad you are here. My name is Rachel Davies and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York with 7+ years of experience working intensely with clients dealing with a wide array of concerns including anger management, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment, relationship issues, and parenting issues. I have worked in a multitude of different environments including outpatient clinics, private practice, and home based therapy within the community.

My style of therapy is warm and inviting. I also use humor and transparency with clients when appropriate. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and safe in therapy and building a strong therapeutic alliance is important to positive outcomes of therapy. My approach combines Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I believe that you know yourself better than anyone and it is my job to meet you where you are at in your process. We will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. I enjoy and feel honored to be a part of someone’s personal experiences. This is the way I like to approach my sessions – as a team, addressing challenges together to become free from judgment, criticism, and pain.

I believe in creating a space where we can have difficult conversations, work on resolving issues and collaborate on treatment plans that are tailored to your personal needs and experiences. Change is not easy, but acknowledging that you want more for yourself is always the first step to creating change in your life. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

What you work on in therapy needs to be brought into your everyday life in order to see the change you are looking for. I have listed a couple of resources that I have found to be helpful if you struggle with following:

Boundaries:
"Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab

Self Sabotage:
"The Mountain Is You" by Brianna West

Forming/ Breaking Habits:
"Atomic Habits" by James Clear

I look forward to working with you.

Rachel is empathetic and a sharp listener. She’s able to distill the thoughts I have, even as I can’t figure out what I’m trying to say, and connect it to my thoughts, feelings, insecurities, strengths and more in ways that I couldn’t alone. I value my time with Rachel!

I could not be happier with my experience and personal and mental growth that Rachel helped me with. Rachel always makes my feelings feel heard and met and provides me with helpful ways to move forward in my life. I’m so thankful she holds space for me to open up and be vulnerable.

Before working with Rachel I had never been able to connect to a therapist in a way in which I felt like I was being 100% honest with not only my therapist, but myself. I feel like every session I’m able to truly crack into some repressed memories or deep cuts that I have never really been able to explore or critically examine before. Before starting with Rachel, my anxiety and panic attacks often lead me to leave work, leave stores, lock myself inside and just shut myself out from the world. After working together I feel like I got my life back. And more importantly, I feel like me again. I look forward to therapy every week even when I’m feeling like not much is going on for me.

I had hit such a rut with counseling and wanted so badly to get better. I cycled through a few counselors before finding Rachel and she’s amazing! She gives me different perspectives and other things to try in regards to issues I’m having that I never thought of. I’ve been making such progress again and so grateful I found her. She is very warm and inviting when you speak to her. She makes you so comfortable and easy to open up. 100 percent recommend.

Rachel is a great listener. She would make really astute observations about the things I shared with her and help me notice patterns I hadn't seen before. She helped me realize there were common issues manifesting in different dimensions of my life -- personal, professional, romantic, and family-of-origin. I highly recommend working with her!
