About me

I am a licensed clinical social worker in New York City with more than ten years experience working with individuals in overcoming challenges such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues and career obstacles. My background as an advocate, organizer and therapist provide a broad range of experiences that I was able to learn from to create a more holistic and inclusive approach to my work. I understand that the struggles faced by people today are complex and require unique dynamic solutions.

My therapeutic style if warm and compassionate. While I am familiar with several therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy, I think it is important to establish a foundational relationship with my clients first and foremost before applying a specific therapeutic approach. By utilizing an integrative style, we are able to find a practice that feels most comfortable to you and will offer the best possible results.

Your decision to take action and seek out the help that you need, reflects a great deal of strength and courage. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Rachel Schimmel. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Rachel recalls everything I have said in prior sessions, and helps connect that info to my present circumstances. Her supportive comments are very helpful to me. She nudges me to make some decisions I am wavering on, and then I am glad I did make those decisions. She is kind, thoughtful and insightful. I would highly recommend her.

In my short time with Rachel as my counselor, I’ve come a long way. I’ve learned to identify the cause of my anxiety, and this knowledge has helped me process it better. She listens to me without judgement and helps me understand the underlying reasons for why I feel two similar events with slight differences in entirely different ways. That knowledge has helped me put things into perspective.

I come out of our sessions feeling relaxed and better able to manage my anxiety. I am deeply grateful for her efforts.
