Hello! I know you're curious and also would probably appreciate a "snapshot" as you browse through BetterHelp, so here's my quick summary:
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: I'm a licensed clinical psychologist from the Bay Area of California. I went to undergraduate school in San Jose State University for psychology/behavioral sciences with a minor in radio-television-film. I then went to the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Francisco for my MA and PhD in clinical psychology. One of my main goals was to become a psychologist who could fill a variety of roles--a clinician (doing individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, workshops), researcher, teacher, and mentor. I hope to eventually work in policy to influence macro-level changes as well.
WORK BACKGROUND: My internship and fellowship have focused on two psychology areas: (1) brief interventions for mental health and relationships in primary care setting (e.g., brief interventions for depression, anxiety, adjustment, trauma, relational conflicts--all delivered after primary care appointments), and (2) behavioral medicine (e.g., conditions with overlapping medical conditions and psychological components such as chronic pain, sleep disturbance, sexual dysfunction, weight management, etc.). I'm happy to join the BetterHelp community to help others in a different setting in a more traditional therapy context (with virtual touches).
PERSONAL STYLE: I work in an integrative way and mostly use cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy principles and interventions. I believe everyone has value and purpose in life. I understand trust is not built quickly, and I encourage people to take their time with this. I personally believe values drive words and actions, and that sometimes people need to check in on whether or not they are living according to their values, and decide if making a change is wanted or needed. I want to help people get back in touch with their values.
SOME PERSONAL BACKGROUND AND RANDOM FACTS: When I'm not at work at my full-time job (in a hospital) or on BetterHelp, I like to spend as much time as possible outside doing sports I'm not so great at but still have lots of fun doing. Dancing is super fun too.

Dr. Raisa Garcia is compassionate and attentive. In just one week, she made me feel heard, cared for, inspired and supported to improve my relationships and communication strategies. The way in which I was able to shift my behavior, shifted the behavior of those around me in ways that benefited all involved.
