“Being empathetic is seeing the world through the eyes of the other, not seeing your world reflected in their eyes”.
Counseling is a process whereby we work together to promote acceptance and change. As a professional in the field for 18 years I have experience in working with individuals facing an array of mental health and substance use issues across many diverse populations. I have helped individuals navigate life issues such as grief and loss, anxiety, stress, trauma, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. I have also facilitated treatment for sexual offenders and perpetrators of domestic violence. I obtained my master’s degree in Counselor Education from SUNY Brockport in May 2002. I received my NBCC certification in 2003, and I obtained NY State licensure in 2006.
I would describe my therapeutic approach as integrative. I meet individuals where they are and try to gain insight and understanding into their worldview. Person-centered approach is primary, focusing on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. Motivational interviewing and strength-based theory take center stage. Cognitive-behavioral theory is integrated as appropriate to help facilitate greater understanding and insight regarding challenges and planning for change. Genuineness is important to me. Please do not expect silence or lack of engagement. I will validate thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, but also challenge incongruencies to help facilitate self-awareness.
I am comfortable in all communication platforms, including texts, video chat, phone calls, video conferencing. I have experience in working with clients across all mediums. I look forward to taking the journey with you.

Renee offers thoughtful, multi-faceted counseling. She is a careful listener and her advice and meaningful and thorough.
I LOVE HER SO MUCH!! She's so helpful!! Wish I had her guidance earlier in life.
Renee is great. She listens, tells me where I’m doing well, and gives great advise, offers resources. I’m so glad I decided to make this choice for my self care.
When I started seeing Renee I was in a very dark place in my life. Her supportive nature and calm presence allowed me to open up and work through my past traumas. Renee was my cheerleader in helping me achieve the life of my dreams! Today, I am hopeful about my future and feel more confident in who I am as a person despite my past trauma.
Renee is very sweet and listens to what you have to say. Always has a plan of action at the end of our conversations to direct me in the correct way. Thank you
Renee has been very understanding especially for me being a first time tele-counceling individual. She actively listens and talks as if she is engaged with me and does feel very welcoming. I appreciate the multiple formats of communication with her and in today's mobile world is very helpful.
so far so good we have only had one meeting otherwise so its still to soon to tell how my prognosis is but so far so good
