About me
I am a Professional Counselor (Clinical Mental Health Counselor) licensed in Tennessee and North Carolina with over 30 years of experience working as a mental health/behavioral health therapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including LGBTQIA (I'm gay), gender dysphoria, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, dual diagnosis (mental health and addiction), career challenges, family of origin issues, self-esteem, and more. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.
My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, mindfulness, psychodynamic and rational-emotive therapy. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life, and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Ricci Hellman. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Great
Very knowledgeable, compassionate and meets you where you are. I love her “assignments” and exercises. Very helpful.
Dr. Ricci is the best provider I’ve ever had. Sympathetic, intelligent, and HELPFUL.
I’ve been going to counseling/therapy since I was in Kindergarten. I’ve never had someone give me tools that actually help me. It always just felt like talking while going in circles. I’m glad with Dr. Ricci’s help I am able to work with my past to create a more balanced future.
Dr. Hellman has changed something in me, the level of understanding she spreads. The level of respect she offers is so freeing of the chains I was binded in she has made it where I can breathe again. An amazing human being! Amazing Dr highly recommend!
Incredibly kind and gentle, Dr Hellman focuses on your concerns with not only professionalism but also provides a comforting atmosphere that allows you to talk to her about almost anything. My first impression exceeded my expectations and I would strongly recommend her to anyone who needs a kind, compassionate soul.
Dr.Hellman is helping me in such a way that I never imagined. She truly listens and comprehends what you are saying and shows you many different ways to tackle this obstacle. I love how comfortable she makes it which helps open up to her.
Dr Hellman helped me open my eyes and face a lot of feelings that I buried. With her help, I have started my journey to better mental health.
Dr Hellman is a great listener and she has good advice and techniques which I need to follow :)
Dr. Hellman is my first therapist and has truly helped me confidently share my thoughts is a safe environment. We have been meeting weekly for 5 weeks and I am looking forward to our continued meetings. Dr. Hellman has already provided tangible and easy-to-use practices that help me manage my anxiety and stress! She's Great! Highly Recommended!
Dr. Hellman is an excellent listener. Her way of speaking is very encouraging and calming. She always has resources to share. I would highly recommend Dr. Hellman to any of my friends.
Dr. Hellman is the first therapist I have met with who actively asks questions to move the conversation in a productive way. She gives great feedback and shows me different perspectives on the concerns I bring up. I leave our sessions feeling more grounded and centered and looking forward to our next session.
After difficult experiences with therapists in the past, Dr. Hellman is one of the first who I have felt total respect and empathy from. I am grateful for how she listens to my concerns, trusts me when I say that something she suggests might not work for me, and offers alternatives without a moment of judgment.
Greatly appreciate your help
Ricci, as she prefers to be called, is beyond amazing.
She has a host of credentials and experience, and still comes across as a friend that is open to hearing everything that is concerning you.
She remembers what your struggles have been over a number of weeks and will ask for updates and give suggestions for coping with them.
She is always prompt for her sessions and open to making your next appointment at the end of the session.
I feel like God led me to her since I could not imagine a better therapy experience.
I adore Dr. Hellman. Although we have only had a couple of sessions so far, I am confident in her ability to help guide me through various facets of counseling. Her warm, empathetic, and well-reasoned approach makes her incredibly approachable, and makes space for me to be vulnerable enough to disclose relevant details about my mental health.
