I am a clinical mental health counselor with a license to practice in the State of Utah. I also have had extensive training in marriage and family therapy, including a Ph.D in marriage and family therapy that was approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. My experience includes: (i) Over 20 years of experience working with individuals, families and couples; (ii) Extensive experience working with many clients who suffered from a mood disorder, such as Bipolar Disorder and/or Depression; (iii) Helping individuals deal with their relationship issues, such as divorce, separation, parenting, anger management, domestic violence, and more. In addition to my doctorate, my education also includes an M.A. in mental health counseling.
I believe in people's ability to overcome challenges, including mental health problems, relationship concerns, and emotional difficulties. I also believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach to therapy combines humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment theory, and models that focus on relationships. Every individual is unique, and our treatment plan will be designed to help you with your specific situation and needs.
We all have life challenges that may require professional help. The most important element in successfully tackling those challenges is your courageous effort to make changes, and also the supportive relationship between therapist and client. My approach focuses on supporting you in your pursuit of a happier life, and I look forward to meeting you and working with you!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Richard Cox. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Dr. Cox has a great way of simplifying the problems I am dealing with that seem so overbearing. He reframes issues I have in a new light that really helps me understand things in a more healthy perspective.
He's a great support.
Extremely helpful, patient and always has new ways to help me through what I am feeling.
Dr. Cox is very understanding and has been exactly what I needed during this tough time. He has a great ability to provide counsel on anxiety and relationships. When his schedule changed he made me aware, way in advance so I could adjust before the change occurred. Overall would recommend him!
Dr. Cox helps me feel confident in myself and valid in my feelings. He explains things in a way I truly understand.
Professional, attentive, and patient. Dr. Cox was very sweet and helped me work though some stuff rather quickly, giving me the tools I needed to acquire and then the space to figure things out at my own pace. Very grateful. Thank you !
He’s really intuitive and helpful.
Dr. Cox helped me work through childhood traumas related to my family that were still affecting me as well as helping me work through other things I was going through now with a recent divorce. He listens very well and always wanted to be sure that I was doing alright. I could share anything with him. He also taught me ways to work through difficult thoughts and emotions and it has helped me immensely.
Dr. Cox is wonderful at listening.
He is very polite and careful to avoid triggering words.
I always want to jump into something with my arms swinging so I'm grateful that he is taking his time listening and ensuring the best plan for my healing.
I'm picky about therapist and he has met all of my requirements.
I feel very comfortable in his knowledge and ability to help walk me through trauma and healing in a safe environment.
I'm not a easy client to take on yet my quirks that caused issues with other therapist don't seem to phase Dr.Cox.
Good guy with lots of life experience clearly well educated & he cares
Dr. Cox was very helpful in thinking through my issues and made me feel comfortable. It was good to have someone listen and work to understand by situation.
Dr. Cox is very helpful and understanding. Easy to converse with. I highly recommend him to those who fit his expertise.
Dr. Cox gave me hope that I can rebuild my life to become what I want it to be. After so much trauma and loss in my life, I have benefited so much from his gentle guidance and perspective.
Thank you so much helping with the battle of my attachment issue of why I feel stuck. I talked and talked during all my therapy and realized I kept answering my own questions of what I really want and the reason why I’m still in a loveless marriage is because it’s just easier then to start the process of separation and divorce. Now that I finally am putting in the work to let go I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you so much for listening and making you like you care!
My first time getting therapy has gone great because of Dr. Cox. He is knowledgeable and has the wisdom that my friends my age can’t provide me.
I really appreciate Dr.Cox’s ability to offer helpful feedback and advice! He always has information, steps or goals etc.- things I personally can do to improve or help me with anything from communication to anxiety.
