Richard Turnham

About Me

Hello and welcome!

Glad you are reading my profile and I really hope it speaks to you. If it does, let’s get started on an amazing journey to face and conquer whatever it is you are going through.

I have 11 years’ experience as a therapist and there is not much I have not heard. There is not much I have not helped people deal with. I am interested in helping you with anything. No topic or issue is off limits with me. With that said, there are some areas I have most experience with and consider myself an expert in. So, here goes!
My name is Richard Turnham, LPC-S, LADC-S (Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor). I am a board approved supervisor in both disciplines as well. I have been in the mental health field for 13 years and have 11 years’ experience as a therapist. Also, I have been married for 11 years and have a 3-year-old daughter and 8-year-old boy.

My passion for therapy comes from my own struggles and a genuine desire to understand all human behavior. My deep interest in understanding people fuels my energy for therapy sessions. My own experience of what it feels like to struggle in life and the fulfillment of finding solutions to those struggles sets the foundation for my approach. What an amazing feeling it is to overcome obstacles and an even more amazing feeling to help someone else do this.
As mentioned previously, in my 11 years as a therapist I have gained experience with so many different issues and would like to help you with whatever it is you are struggling with. However, I would say most of my experience has been with people struggling with addictions and everything that goes with that.

What started the addiction?
Trauma, childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, unhealthy relationship patterns, major life events, grief/loss, pain, etc.

What resulted?
Inability to regulate emotions, broken relationships, unhealthy coping skills, lost purpose, etc.

I have struggled with addictions, depression, anxiety, weight, lack of purpose, death, low self-esteem, and unhealthy relationship patterns. I am a Christian but have been Agnostic and Atheist before finding my belief system. I have a strong belief system, but I am incredibly open, interested, and accepting to the beliefs of others. I have most experience with adult males but am happy to see children and women as well.

The answer lies within you. You can find that answer and you can begin a process of changing what needs to be changed. You can become a better version of you. You can face difficult problems and you can overcome them. I would absolutely love for you to let me help you and be a part of your journey.

I was very hesitant to get into therapy, even though I desperately needed it in my life. Richard was the first therapist I matched with on Betterhelp and I am so grateful because he has helped me so much already. I was very nervous at first but he quickly made me feel very comfortable. I mostly appreciate his kind and easy-going demeanor and his ability to unpack situations and make connections to things that I wasn't able to see. 5 stars for Richard!
