About me

Richard ( Rick) Karges, LISW-S (Ohio), LCSW ( Maine).

I welcome individuals and families dealing with a range of mental health and life adjustment issues into my practice. I have extensive experience working with such conditions as Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Emotional/Mood Disturbance, Thought Disorders, Co-occurring Disorders, Life Transitions, Men's Issues, Peer Relationships, Self Esteem, Stress management, Job & Career challenges, and Medical conditions.

My practice utilizes a "whole person" mind-body-spirit orientation, that employs unique strength-based methods and solution-focused strategies. I seek to help my clients recognize and discover effective solutions to the problems/issues that may be barriers to reaching their goals. With a treatment orientation geared to what works best for my clients, I typically draw on such clinical methodologies as: • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT ) • Eclectic • Humanistic • Person-Centered • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) • Reality Therapy • Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) • Strength-Based and Mindfulness oriented therapies.

I have worked with mental health conditions ranging from mild to severe in both community and hospital-based settings, as well as in my practice. I have written and published numerous articles and papers pertinent to the fields of behavioral healthcare, personal and career growth and leadership strategies and frequently present at professional conferences.

As a senior clinician and executive, I have also had a diverse career in having served in CEO/ managerial leadership positions in several community and residential based organizations in both Ohio and Maine. Additionally, in 2017, I formed my own company Leadership Management Associates, LLC specializing in leadership coaching, counseling, consultation, and crisis management services.

I was recognized as Professional of the Year in 2007 by NAMI-Maine and am the recipient of a Professional Achievement Award from Bridges (Ohio): Consumer Mental Health and Empowerment.

I am an approved provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and on provider panels for many major private commercial health insurance carriers.
