About me

Welcome! I'm glad you took this first step on your journey to a happier and more fulfilling life!

Before we start our collaboration, I'm excited to tell you that the therapy we will use is a type of journaling therapy, which is one of the most heavily researched treatment modes available today, and also one of the most successful in promoting lasting change. You'll write down your thoughts and feelings whenever and wherever is most convenient for you and I will spend some time reading your messages and write back within a few hours. Researchers have found that this allows you and me to really read and absorb each other's texts and have a much deeper and more precise dialogue than the fast back and forth talk that occurs in traditional face to face therapy. And you can scroll back and re-read what each of us has written to gain a fuller understanding. We'll also set a goal of communicating at least three times a week, which is the minimum recommended to achieve the right intensity for you to enjoy real lasting change.

I have trained in several different approaches to therapy including Solution Focused Brief Therapy and motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also earned a Masters degree from the Rutgers University School of Social Work. My philosophy is rather than expecting you to adapt to one particular therapy approach, through our collaboration we'll incorporate the best of all approaches to create a therapy as unique as you are.

I look forward to helping you to achieve your goals. Just press the button below to begin your journey to a more effective and successful life.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Rick Macnamara. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Dr. Rick truly cares about his patients, I trust him implicitly. He always knows how to talk to me and help me figure out why I feel the way I feel, if I’m having a problem he as well will help me figure out how I can find a solution. Before BetterHelp I was a disaster, I desperately needed someone to talk to and help me with my problems and I have completely found that in Dr. Rick. Better help is great!

Rick is very great in relating to me. He had been very helpful in giving me tips in coping. Well, I see him as a long distance friend who lends a listening ear.
