About me

Greetings. Looking for a counselor is an important step. The fact that you are searching is commendable in and of itself. You’re considering opening yourself and your struggles – possibly something you have never done before – to a stranger. Your options are limitless and it may feel a little overwhelming. You want and should have the best counseling for you. Rest assured that all of these counselors from which you can choose are capable, competent, and licensed. All of us have years of education and many more years of experience in some cases. Yet, that does not mean that everyone is necessarily “right” for you. Finding that a counselor is not “right” is no failure of yours or theirs. It simply was not the right fit. So, how can you best determine if you’ve picked the right one? Like any significant relationship, it can take time to decide. Some things you may want to consider in the process is whether or not the experience and education of that counselor match with the particular issue with which you are seeking assistance. Some counselors have areas of focus that they are very skilled in and other areas in which they are not so skilled. You may also consider style differences. Do you prefer more directive and prescriptive counseling or process space to allow you to come to your own conclusions? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, do you feel heard, validated, and supported as you open yourself up? So, as you browse profiles at this moment, you are considering an important question. Please allow me the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself to help you begin finding the answer.

My name is Robert (Rob) Gould. I am a Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor with a little over 10 years of experience. I have had the privilege to provide counseling for individuals (children, adolescents, adults) couples, and families in various settings including in-home, private practice, hospitals, and correctional institutions. Over the years I have met people from all walks in life just trying to cope with the human condition in the best way possible; addictions, trauma from abuse, relationship difficulties, coping with grief and loss, or even struggling with a significant psychological disorder. My goal is to meet whoever I have the opportunity to counsel exactly where he/she/they are without any preconceived notions or agendas. I wish to validate, listen, and respect the person first – then aid, assist, and support in achieving whatever goal desired. My style is one that can match the individual needs at the time. This is for us to determine as we get to know one another and begin unpacking the complexity of whatever problem brings you to counseling.

It is my intention that if you get paired with me, or choose me as your counselor, that you will be met with warmth and empathy. You are making an important choice to begin living your best life possible and I am glad to have the opportunity to help in whatever way I possibly can.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Robert Gould. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

It was my first time seeking counseling and I didn't know what to expect. I was scared to be so open with a stranger, but it doesn't feel like that with Rob. He is kind and understanding, non-judgemental and easy to talk to. He allows space for you to share and shows genuine interest in what you say. He asks insightful questions and often left me with things to think on until our next session. The best part though about Rob is that he is real. He is honest and will say the things that need to be said and validated so much of what I was experiencing. Thank you Rob for helping me grow, change my life and get to the place I am today.

Robert is personable and very understanding. I didn’t always have the words, but he was patient and helped guide me through my thoughts. With his help, I finally had the language to speak about the things that were troubling me, so that I could work on them.

Robert is an awesome encourager. He treats me like an equal and a friend. I feel he wants the best for me. I’d recommend him to anyone.

Sessions with Robert went smoothly. He was quite down to earth and was capable of reading between the lines - which I found helped me open up some. He responds to messages usually within 24 hrs. You need to be able to push yourself and understand what you want from therapy. Robert doesn’t push you - but if you can do that then you’ll likely do well with him as your therapist.

Robert is really awesome and I've loved being able to talk to him and work through things that I was struggling with. He's really understanding and tries his best to help no matter what, even if that just means listening. He's been really awesome throughout this experience and really welcoming throughout the whole experience.
