My name is Robin, I am a Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC) and operate a private practice. I have worked in mental health since 2008. I received my bachelors in Psychology from Mississippi University for Women. I received my Masters from University of West Alabama and my Specialist degree from Mississippi College. I became a nationally certified counselor (NCC) as well. I enjoy a variety of extracurricular activities and the great outdoors predominantly around water. I have a family and pets whom I love dearly and we often spend time outdoors or watching movies. I wear many hats in my daily life but I would attribute caregiving as my all encompassing trait.
I have seen various age groups from kindergarten to the elderly suffer from mental illness. One thing about mental illness is that it does not discriminate against age, gender, or ethnicity. Anybody can experience a mental illness and it may be brief or life-long. Mental illness has a stigma attached to it and many people come in our office stating “I’m not crazy, I just have _____________”. Experiencing a change in your life that results in needing someone to talk to is simply being human and it does not make you "crazy.” The reality of this statement is that anyone of us at any moment are vulnerable to a change in our mental health. It could be from an injury, an illness, a death, drugs, alcohol, a relationship, environmental issues or a genetic precursor that has been lingering for the right stressor to trigger its appearance. Most people can benefit from mental health services and use therapy to transcend their current coping skills and thoughts about themselves while improving relationships with those around them. Therapy enriches, teaches, and encourages a person to use themselves as a tool to their own wellbeing. I believe in therapy and that if a person is open to exploring themselves that real change can occur. I use a blend of approaches during therapy because I cannot say that each person is one size fits all. I believe in individualized treatment and cater the plan of care according to the needs and goals of the patient. As a therapist my main goal is to be genuine and understanding. I meet the client where they are in life and help them to move forward towards their future.
