About Me

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you are reaching out for help and want you to know that I believe you have the power within yourself to change for the better, and that support, encouragement and the right skills will help you make the changes you want to make.

I am a clinical psychologist with over 8 years of experience working with individuals experiencing a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress, and substance abuse. I use a cognitive-behavioral approach based on what is known as a bio-psycho-social understanding of mental health. That means I believe all individuals cope with their world in the best way they know how within their biological, psychological, and environmental backgrounds. That does not mean that your past has to define who you are today. Together we will discover why you feel, think, and behave the way you do. Then I will assist you in identifying the strengths you already have, provide you an opportunity to learn and practice the skills that add to and increase your strengths, and give you the support and encouragement every person benefits from during change and growth.

I am ready to compassionately assist you in discovering your power to change and using the skills you need for a happier life.

I look forward to helping you.

As a psychotherapist myself, I am picky about my mental health providers. Dr. Sjostrand is adept at asking the right questions at the right time, not giving me advice but rather helping me come up with my own answers. I'd highly recommend this therapist.

Dr. Sjostrand is a good listener and gives very good advice. She responds in a timely manner and even though her schedule gets filled fast she does her best to make time whenever I am needing help.

I enjoy counseling with Dr. Sjostrand. She gives me exactly what I want- the tools to help me through what’s going on. She doesn’t fix it or try to in any way, she just lets me us the tools and see if I can fix it myself. I enjoy my time with her each week!

Dr. Sjostrand is an incredibly understanding and empathetic person. She was able to give me real, effective advice both from her years of training and from first hand experiences of her own. I don't know if it's the quality of the algorithm for matching patients with doctors, or if it's just coincidence, but I find she is a perfect fit for me.
