About Me

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you are reaching out for help and want you to know that I believe you have the power within yourself to change for the better, and that support, encouragement and the right skills will help you make the changes you want to make.

I am a clinical psychologist with over 8 years of experience working with individuals experiencing a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress, and substance abuse. I use a cognitive-behavioral approach based on what is known as a bio-psycho-social understanding of mental health. That means I believe all individuals cope with their world in the best way they know how within their biological, psychological, and environmental backgrounds. That does not mean that your past has to define who you are today. Together we will discover why you feel, think, and behave the way you do. Then I will assist you in identifying the strengths you already have, provide you an opportunity to learn and practice the skills that add to and increase your strengths, and give you the support and encouragement every person benefits from during change and growth.

I am ready to compassionately assist you in discovering your power to change and using the skills you need for a happier life. I am available through messaging, or by scheduled phone or video session Monday through Friday, 6:00 pm through 8:00 pm. I check my messages multiple times during the day but appreciate your patience when it takes a bit longer to respond to messages, as I have other clients and responsibilities throughout the day. I am not available Saturday or Sunday.

I look forward to helping you.

Dr. Sjostrand is an extraordinary counselor. She has helped me through my issues with stress and anxiety. I had sessions with her for over 5 months and in that time she has given me the tools I needed to get better. She is patient and kind. She teaches you how to deal with problems in a way that is so easy to understand and she gives you exercises that are so very practical in your everyday life. This was my first attempt at therapy and I am so glad that I was assigned to Dr. Sjostrand she made the experience very comfortable and I felt very safe sharing. She is the best!

Dr. Sjostrand is an excellent therapist. She conveyed a lot of caring and expertise that has helped me deal with some difficult life experiences from the past and that I am dealing with currently. Having been in therapy before several times with other practitioners. They all were competent, however Dr. Sjostrand stands out to me as someone who bring a lot to this service both professionally and personally.

Dr. Sjostrand helped me recognize the causes of my anxiety, and provided knowledge and tools to allow me to look inward and recognize and overcome my distorted thinking that caused it. I think she is good at it, and it was enjoyable and worth my time and effort. Thanks!

Dr. Sjostrand uncovers the hidden thought patterns that have been barriers to my emotional and even physical healing—all in a courteous and dignifying way! I enjoy working with her.

As a psychotherapist myself, I am picky about my mental health providers. Dr. Sjostrand is adept at asking the right questions at the right time, not giving me advice but rather helping me come up with my own answers. I'd highly recommend this therapist.

Dr. Sjostrand is a good listener and gives very good advice. She responds in a timely manner and even though her schedule gets filled fast she does her best to make time whenever I am needing help.

I enjoy counseling with Dr. Sjostrand. She gives me exactly what I want- the tools to help me through what’s going on. She doesn’t fix it or try to in any way, she just lets me us the tools and see if I can fix it myself. I enjoy my time with her each week!
