About me

Imagine looking in the mirror, and loving the reflection staring back at you. What would it feel like to not feel burden by anxiety, depression, confusion, anger, and grief? What would it feel like to see confidence, calmness, clarity, compassion, courage, and joy in your reflection? In life, we experience a lot of joyful moments that allow us to feel grateful for what we have, but then there are those painful, confusing and overwhelming moments that really burdens us and we wonder if we will ever feel peace, confidence, and happiness again. We look in the mirror and at times cannot recognize the person staring back at us and we wonder, "how did I get to this point in my life, and can I get past it?" It can be scary to reach out to a counselor because you worry "what does it mean if I am in counseling", or "can a counselor really help me be happy again?" I'm here to say, "yes I can help you and yes, you can be happy again".

Here in therapy, you will be able to embark on a new journey to self-discovery where you can learn to change your reflection within yourself and your environment; where you will learn to be a better version of yourself. You will be able to love the reflection staring back at you.

I received my Master's in Social Work degree from Columbia University in the city of New York, and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I focus on working with adults struggling with traumatic experiences such as gun violence, domestic violence, and physical and sexual abuse. In addition to trauma, I address depression, anxiety, parenting, grief, adjustments to life changes, and caregivers coping with caring for a child with chronic medical illness. I am a trauma-informed specialist trained in play-therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adoption Competency, Internal Family Systems and am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional. My approach to therapy is a holistic approach, where I take into consideration your environment when working with you. I view therapy as a journey toward self-exploration. It is a method of you learning who you truly are, learning how you cope and adapt to life changes, and becoming a better version of yourself. My goal, as your therapist, is to facilitate this inner growth by guiding your inner thoughts and challenging your current perspective.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Robyn Smith-McLeish. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I came to BetterHelp looking for help managing the aftermath of an abusive relationship. It took a few tries to find what I needed on BetterHelp, but it was worth it. I am so happy to have met Robyn. Her deep compassion and expertise meant a lot to me as she helped me work thru various stages of trauma. She is also skilled at keeping things moving toward your goals, while being sensitive to whatever stage you are facing. My highest thanks and recommendation to Robyn.

I’m extremely happy with Robin in our first few sessions. The texting allows for freedom and patience in my response... typing it allows me the time to process and think. Robin has allowed me to build some goals and we are working through each which helps me stay organized and that’s key. She is timely and understanding. I am thankful for the ease of this app/ program and for its really easy sign up process

She's nice and a good supporter, I can't describe a lot because we've only talked three times, so we need more time to discuss more, but I like her. Before every session, I think about cancelling the whole thing because it won't make any difference, but after talking with her, she gives me hope, and helps me to continue and hold on

Although I have only had one session with Robin, she’s an excellent counselor and a soon confidant. She understands your emotions on a deep level and healthily validates your achievements. I can’t wait to watch our sessions become more insightful and inspiring with every chat. I highly recommend her, not just as a counselor, but as a caring human being.

Having started counseling few years ago and trying various counselors, I can confidently say so far that I have had the best sessions with Robyn so far. Not only is she patient and understanding, but she’s incredibly empathetic and has managed to, in just a few sessions, make me identify patterns and shift my perspective about certain issues. The sessions are helpful and insightful and make you think in ways that you haven’t before. I definitely have begun to understand my grief and anxiety better than before.
