About me

Welcome to betterhelp! I am a community engaged cultural anthropologist, micro (clinical) and macro (community organizing) licensed social worker in Michigan with over 20 years of experience as a therapist. I collaborate with English and Spanish-speaking therapeutic colleagues who have a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, trauma, grief, and cultural adaptation. I am a former MI Governor appointed Board member of the Children's Trust Fund for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, former President of Organization of Latino Social Workers-MI and I am currently co-developing a culturally-focused trauma-informed/Empowerment program with the public schools.

My counseling style is warm and engaging. I use a cultural humility, empowerment, and transformative complicity approach that involves respect, sensitivity, and compassion toward the self and others. I am informed by the latest cutting edge research on neuroplasticity, neurodiversity, cultural inclusion, and equity. Consistent journaling (daily to several times a week) is a central part of our communication in the work we will be doing together. It is informed by neuroscience. I don't believe in stigmatizing labels and I respect an intersectional identity and standpoint theory perspective. My approach combines positive psychological, critical feminist, social justice, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psycho-dynamic, and rational-emotive counseling. I look forward to collaborating together to reach your emotional and spiritual goals. I am honored to walk with you on your journey!

Dr Duntley-Matos has been an incredible support system throughout the past year. She has inspired me to become invested in learning about myself, always working from a place of strength rather than focussing on perceived weaknesses. Her strength based approach has really worked for me.

Dr. Duntley-Matos is very well informed, articulate, and professional. They provide the necessary structure in session to feel safe, as well as out of session to make sure that therapy is constant. I’ve considered ending my subscription to BetterHelp because of the cost, however Dr Duntley-Matos is so good that I will continue because I think they will be highly beneficial to my personal growth
