About me

My name is Ryan Rhodes and I am a licensed professional counselor with the state of Colorado and a certified life coach. I have worked with a multitude of people struggling with various mental health issues which include sever and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Along with adults, I have extensive experience working with adolescents, groups and family therapy. My work history includes substance abuse treatment in adult outpatient settings, adolescent residential, and community based treatment.

My theoretical orientation is an eclectic model so each person can have treatment that is uniquely developed to suit their individuality. I prefer to walk along side people rather than push from behind or pull from in front. It is my goal to meet you were you are and come along side to help make the changes you want to make.

I’ve been working with Ryan for just over a year now and he’s awesome. I never feel like he’s trying to “fix” me but instead he’s helping me brainstorm ways to work through hard things and to feel like I’m not alone in doing it. He’s knowledgeable, kind, patient, and knows when to crack a funny joke to lighten things up when it’s needed. Super thankful for his help.

My husband began counseling with Ryan about a month before I did. He kept talking about how easy he was to talk to, how well he balances listening and offering his view on a situation (“tell me if I’m way off, but...”), and his ability to be candid and yet gracious at the same time. The idea of counseling in general made me nervous that I would be telling someone all my problems, and figured I would walk away feeling embarrassed and hopeless. Specifically, I went into counseling with him skeptical that I would feel comfortable talking to him when the three previous counselors had felt awkward for me. Talking with Ryan, I feel heard and my emotions validated, but it’s not like it’s all warm and fuzzy. He’s great at talking through tough subjects with objectivity, and without shaming me in the slightest. It was important for me not to feel judged and criticized because of my background. Ryan is so down-to-earth and relatable. I guess I feel like I’m talking to a wiser, big brother; and it’s exactly what I needed. I can’t thank Ryan enough for helping me get to a place where I can be comfortable knowing I need to still change and grow, but this time getting excited about the possibilities!

After working with Ryan for over a year I know I’ll be forever grateful for the impact he’s had on my life. He is compassionate and optimistic which makes me look forward to our sessions.

He is very easy to talk to. Before joining Betterhelp, I had some worries because I am not a native English speaker and I am from a different cultural background. Now I feel very comfortable talking to him. He is supportive and very professional.
