About Me
Hello and welcome! I am a friendly, warm hearted, curious, and effective Clinical Psychologist practicing virtually on the internet, and COVID compliantly in person in Santa Monica, California. My approach to becoming a helpful psychotherapist has been influenced by many years of formal education in psychology, exposure to multiple clinical training perspectives, and perhaps most importantly, my inherent curiosity toward understanding how and why I, and my fellow humans, behave the way we do! Above all, I deeply value being a helpful human being!
When I begin working with you, I will gently attempt to understand how you are feeling both physically and emotionally. I use empathy which is an emotional interaction between you as the client, and me as your therapist, that enables me to get a sense of how you are feeling. Moving gradually forward, you and I will discover how you are feeling in a given moment, with emphasis on the importance of remembering that "feelings change." This will help if, or when, you may feel overwhelmed and alone with depression, anxiety, loneliness, or sadness, etc. Change will begin by sharing with me your memories about when, and under what circumstances, you began feeling uncomfortable. You will gradually begin to notice that your feelings, and relationships with family and friends can improve! Over all, this process is expected to enable you to develop greater appreciation for yourself, which naturally leads to greater enjoyment of, and attachment to, others.
If this description of how I work as a therapist resonates with what you are looking for as a client, let’s meet in the mode with which you are most comfortable (Text, Chat, or Virtual) to see if we are a therapist/client match. Above all, I love my work as a psychotherapist and I look forward to helping you achieve your best life possible!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Samuel Hopper. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Only a few sessions in, but I greatly appreciate Dr. Hopper's help in steering me towards new insights into things about myself. I always thought I was self-aware, but there a lot of things I never really noticed (or gave thought to) that have given me new perspectives as to why and how I do what I do.
Dr Hopper is a great listener and very compassionate.
Sam has great approach to the multiple situations that have come up since I started the session. His experience and expertise have helped me navigate emotions I haven’t experience before. And have been able to take the beast approach for me and the ones around me.
Dr. Hopper is very encouraging. I am very happy he has stayed with me on this wellness journey. I enjoy our sessions and feel like I can be my true self and express myself however I need to. No shame. Makes me feel empowered and valued as an individual. It is ok to be sad or depressed about something. It is ok to feel how we feel because we are human. Dr. Hopper acknowledges this. That is huge to me! :) I enjoy our sessions!
Dr. Hopper is incredibly good natured and a fantastic listener. He created a safe, open space for me, which has been incredibly helpful.
Dr.Hopper has been a great resource. He understands and feels my pain and has helped me understand certain things about myself by simply asking me questions and helping me come to a self-realization about my issues, mindset, trauma.
Mr. Hopper is very compassionate. I was able to talk to him and get clear advice. I feel like there is hope when I speak with Mr.Hopper.
Dr. Hopper is the first therapist that makes me feel heard. I've had other good ones in the past, but Dr. Hopper validates my thoughts and feelings, without simply agreeing. He provides very good insight, and I feel happy after talking with him.
