Sara Boykan

(MC, LPC)

About Me

I am a licensed professional counselor with 7+ years of experience in Phoenix, both in the public sector and private practice settings. I have worked with a range of ages, cultures, and challenges, including anxiety and depression, interpersonal conflict, and identity development in transitional periods. I have also taught Attachment and Trauma courses for caretakers who have children displaying issues of trust and connectivity.

The most effective means for change in the counseling setting is the relationship between the therapist and client. I work to establish comfort and emotional safety early in the process and build a partnership necessary to achieve your treatment goals. I utilize a solution-focused approach along with skills of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, trauma reprocessing, and Brief Strategic Therapy with an individualized client-centered approach.

Seeking counseling takes strength and I would like to recognize your courage for taking the steps to work through the process. I look forward for the opportunity to collaborate and support you in your therapeutic journey.

Sara did an excellent job helping me sort through what was really bothering me. Since working with Sara I have learned how to advocate for myself and how to face new struggles without falling into unhelpful patterns of behavior I engaged in previously. I didn’t think I “needed” therapy because I was somewhat functional, but since working with Sara I’ve seen that I can be better than functional, I can be proactive. I can not simply fight through everyday to make it, I can take control of what is actually in my control. Sara is a very skilled, kind and thoughtful therapist and I can’t recommend her enough.

Sara is a very capable counselor. She listens actively as demonstrated by her ability to restate and summarize and always has practical insights that can be put into action. I do not hesitate at all to recommend her.

Loving my sessions with Sara Boykan. I was quite hesitant about therapy in any fashion. She put me at ease immediately and before I knew it I was babbling away about everything.

Sara has been wonderful in helping me talk through the tough spot I am currently in. She's had great suggestions of resources I can look to.
