Sara McClelland

About Me

Hi there! My name is Sara and I am Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I have over 5 years working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings such as inpatient, intensive children's behavioral, agency based counseling, supervising other counselors and therapist, and private practice. It seems like a lot, but it just means I have worked in a lot of different areas and draw experience from all of them. I have the most experience working with maternal mental health, parenting issues, life transitions, and depression. I also have experience working with family issues, trauma/abuse, and anxiety.

As a doula and mother, I am most passionate about maternal mental health and parenting. Mothers and parents need a lot of support throughout their parenting journey, but supporting them in the beginning to help create a solid foundation for the future is key. I also assist women during and before pregnancy with a variety of other pregnancy and birth related concerns.

I use a person-centered, experiential, and holistic approach to counseling. I meet you where you are at and, together, we will develop short- and long-term goals that are tailored to you and your specific needs. I use evidenced-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution focused counseling, and mindfulness. My experiential approach helps my clients to tackle emotional situations in a healthy and safe way that will help inform future issues.

I would describe my style as warm and collaborative. I see counseling as something that takes as long as it needs to work. If you are looking for a quick fix, I may not be the counselor for you. I will be there to help you process and, together, we will work towards your goals to improve and sustain your mental health. Just as learning a skill takes time and practice, so does working on your mental health.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Sara has been absolutely great. My first counselor on BetterHelp didn’t work out, so I was a bit skeptical. But connecting with Sara has worked out so well. I’ve made a lot of progress in our short time together, so that we are now working on new things that I didn’t even think about when I started. She’s always very responsive and caring. And I can tell she is really listening and hearing what I am saying, and gives me a better understanding of why I am feeling certain things and how to address and work on them.
