About Me

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I have an education background from the University of Oklahoma . I have been in the counseling field for almost five years. I have more than three years of experience providing teletherapy services. I am a very active and engaged therapist, whether in person or online.

While working with clients, I use various methods depending on which would be most beneficial for the particular person. I have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Now, let’s break those down for an easier explanation that reveals how they can assist us as we begin teletherapy. CBT can help with depression, anxiety, and other problems by focusing on how a person's thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect their feelings and behaviors. Narrative Therapy is used in order to separate a person from their problem(s). It encourages a person to “re-write” the story of their life. Lastly, DBT is used in order to teach a person how to live in the moment, regulate their emotions, improve relationships with others and to cope with stress.

Many people are nervous about therapy and not sure what to expect. I like to use therapy sessions as a way to have an intellectual conversation about current issues and concerns. A lot of times people have problems and don't realize there are technical terms and theories that can explain their current life issue. Once they learn "other side" of some problems, it makes it easier to put those problems in check and be able to move on! I love it when this connection happens!

I have a rambunctious fur baby, a Yorkshire Terrier name Prince! I have a deep love for animals and dream to have enough land to become a foster home for dogs waiting for adoption. My mottos are "Life is Sweet" and #loveveryday and I really believe those!

Just started working with Shani, but she has earned my respect and trust rapidly. I’m optimistic about where I can go with her help. She knows when to listen and when to talk, a truly genuine person.

Shani is absolutely amazing. I was so worried I would get a counselor that would just sit and nod there head. She connects with me, gives me amazing advice and relates to me. I couldn’t thank her enough she is absolutely amazing!

Shani has helped me so much in the short time I have worked with her. She gives me tools to use between our sessions and understands my goals.
