Welcome! My name is Shanice Bernard, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. I have been providing therapy services for approximately 3 years and in that time have worked in therapeutic settings that include outpatient community mental health and college counseling. I have worked with a wide range of clinical presentations including anxiety, depression, and mood dysregulation. Though I am still learning a lot about the field and myself as a clinician, I have found that I really enjoy working with members of marginalized and minority communities including the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, and those within the Kink/BDSM/alternative lifestyle communities.
I believe that life can be challenging and difficult at times, and that makes it hard to ask and receive help – especially for mental health purposes. You should be proud of yourself for making it this far. Within the therapeutic dynamic I strive to bring transparency and respect to all my sessions. You are entrusting me with what can sometimes be the hardest moments of your life, and I always want to respect that.
My approach to counseling utilizes a combination of skills and techniques derived from humanistic/person-centered and cognitive-behavioral therapies. I believe that the client is the agent of change and it is my job to help you get to where you want to be. Because of this, I prefer an eclectic approach that allows the treatment to be tailored to the individual.
You have made it this far and I cannot wait to empower you to make the changes in your life that will allow you to be your true, authentic self.

I really like Shanice.
Shanice is great at what she does. She has helped me reframe some of my problematic thinking and made it easier for me to cope with my emotions. She also provides plenty of supplemental materials that can be used outside of sessions.
