Hi! My name is Shannon, and I'm a lover of adventure, nature, gelotology, synchronicity, and the mysticism of life.
Working together, my approach is fluid and open to change based on what works best for you. That said, this is a safe, judgment-free space and I value your feedback. I like to describe therapy as the two of us on a boat: you’re the captain steering the ship, and I’m the passenger navigating when needed. Wherever you're at on your journey, I'm willing to meet you there and support you in reaching your desired destination.
I have a master's degree from Wayne State University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan. My experience over the last four years includes working as a home-based therapist to children and families, working with teens and adults at a private practice, and facilitating a grief support group. Prior to my work as a therapist, I was a teacher and soccer coach.
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, using various techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, solutions focused therapy, person-centered therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy informed, psychoeducation, and art and play therapy. I'm also a trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapist and a strong proponent for wilderness and nature therapy.
Give me a shout if you have questions or would like to talk more. I definitely understand that finding the right therapist can take time, and I take absolutely no offense if we try this out and you feel like it isn't the right fit. Overall, I value honesty and want you to feel empowered to do what's best for you.

I was really nervous signing up for counseling but Shannon has been great. I feel very comfortable talking to her and she has offered me a number of different skills and relaxation techniques. So far, I'm very happy with how things are going. I'm seeing improvements in my social anxiety.
