About Me

I am a Solutions Focused Therapist for you: Are you having challenges that rob you of the joy and success you deserve? Are you as happy as you want to be? Is your life working out the way you wanted and expected it to?

We all cope with stressors in different ways. I help people deal with stress more successfully with caring, plus the powerful tools that therapy provides, to achieve results and solutions.

Therapy must be warm and compassionate, but we can also look at life's issues with a little humor and understanding as well.

Therapy isn't only for people with problems, who are depressed or anxious. Your therapy is an important tool to improve your life, happiness, relationships, well being, self awareness and a wide range of other concerns - helping you change responses and habits or establish healthier ones.

Stress makes life difficult - it even kills sometimes. I help people deal with it more successfully and help find better outcomes with results oriented support for stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, addiction, coping, panic attacks, low self-esteem, co-occurring disorders, PTSD, grief/loss - and more.

Many I've helped used substances (food, drugs, alcohol) and become addicted.
Others withdraw or have relationship difficulties, anxiety or depression because their stress feels overwhelming without support.

Too many people have low self-esteem and lack of true support, which can make it difficult to motivate themselves or to sustain the change they want to achieve. Having a clinician available just for you can make the difference for many people who want to be happier.

I'm Solution Focused for you, though I'm skilled in several other therapeutic styles; it is important to adjust the approach to your unique personality and concerns..
I am an experienced, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed to work in California.
Your life does not get better by chance. It gets better by change.

Sharon was most helpful to me when I was suffering from panic attacks day and night. Her methods and tips are practical and effective in helping me overcome my anxieties and stress. Do what she says and you will see immediate results. Thanks Sharon!

In the past I've had a difficult time talking with therapists. Sharon makes me feel safe to be able to fully express myself and talk about things I don't really like to talk about with others. She gives advice she listens and makes me feel that things will get better. I like that she says what needs to be said but while also still showing compassion and understanding.

When I started working with Sharon, I was in a pretty bad place. I was going through a divorce, a move, a job change, and dealing with resultant financial struggles and parenting challenges. I was feeling very lethargic, wasn't working or looking to be working, had no relationship and wasn't looking for one. Was a bit angry at the world. Things are very much better now. Full-time employed; building something meaningful. Am dating, meeting some great potential mates and taking my time finding the right one. Am working out several times a week and getting stronger and fitter. Am not pissed off at the past. I'm happy with my kids and my parenting. Life is in a much better place, and I appreciate Sharon's help.

Sharon is absolutely wonderful! I started therapy with her last year and she has made such a difference in my life. She is extremely thoughtful and shows a lot of compassion. She has provided me with a safe environment, she is consistent, and gives back honest feedback every time. I am so grateful for her!

I love Sharon. She has been so helpful and I'm sure my friends are glad I'm "venting" to someone different than them. All the blogs and articles she has given me have helped me make better decision about my life.

Sharon is absolutely incredible. She works quickly to solve with you. But she is also gentle and you don't feel attacked. I would highly recommend working with Sharon to anyone that I know.

Sharon is SO amazing. This is not a therapist for someone who wants to complain and do nothing about it!

For a second, I was a little intimidated, because from day one no matter the issue Sharon was ready with solutions, to dig into what it was I wanted to change and why, and to call out me out only my negative habits and push me to STOP doing them!

Committing to Sharon is committing to do the work, and face the stuff that you just can't talk around anymore. She's not going to let you talk about it for long, if it's something you want to do then she's going to ask you for actionable ways to get it done, and if it's something you want to stop she's going to say STOP! and ask you why if you continue.

To be honest, me reading my own review would be a little intimidated, so if you are that person I want to say don't be, because Sharon pushes you to try!! but on the days where I didn't have it in me to respond or I found myself worried I that I'm never going to get it together, she is a Mama Bear who has rescinded her claws. An advocate and never an accuser. Even when I'm stuck and horribly frustrated with myself Sharon has only ever left me feeling more than equipped and will never leave you believing those lies we tell ourselves sometimes. I'm so very grateful for her.

When I first signed up for Better Help I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I went through a few counselors who were helpful but just not for me. Then I found Sharon, who I love! She is persistent, helpful and down to earth. I appreciate her blunt personality more than I thought I ever would. She tells me how it is and really helps me see things from a different and positive point of view.
I was at a point in my life where I didn't know what I could possibly do to feel better. Sharon has been helping me get there and she's doing an amazing job at it. I would highly recommend her to any of my friends or family.

Written by R.O on Dec 02, 2016 after counseling with Sharon for 4 months depression, trauma and abuse, and grief

I felt like an odd case coming into this, and believed I probably couldn't be helped. I'd just lost my husband tragically, and the aftermath of what I had endured was even worse, exacerbating a whole host of skeletons and problems I'd buried deep within. One of the ways my depression manifested itself was hard to explain. I hated the sound of my own voice, especially when it came to the issue at hand. I would have rather let the depression do its worst with me than to speak on it. Then I started seeing ads for e-therapy, a ridiculous notion in my mind. It was so ridiculous, I thought, 'well, why the hell not?' So I signed up, went through a therapist or two quickly until settling upon Sharon. At first, she kinda rubbed me the wrong way. She came off brash and assuming. I found myself getting angry with her, but I also respected something about the way she matched my tone and didn't coddle me even in my fragile state. It appealed to the realist in me, and I decided to see what she was all about. Turns out it was mainly my fault. I gave as little information as possible and expected some magic conversation to either validate that this was utter rubbish, or fix me miraculously so I could get back to living again. Laughably, I was wrong on both accounts. I wasn't opening up, and I didn't trust this process, or Sharon for that matter. I was angry and repressed and in pain and shock, but Sharon was relentless in her pursuit of a response and the truth. It's like she learned my buttons and triggers as well as my language and cynicism, and she played into each one until I started opening up. It was like reverse psychology. I realized I probably wasn't as smart as I thought I was and I was able to take a step back and laugh at myself for a second. She got me to open up. And it's been like a snowball rolling down a hill picking up more snow ever since.

Sharon has been consistent in helping me to air out my numerous issues, some of which I didn't even know I was repressing. She would reach out to me daily, even when I chose to go on hiatus sometimes and check out from everyone. She has earned my trust and speaks to me in a way that commands not only my attention, but my respect. She doesn't talk "at" me, she talks with me, and the difference is appreciated. I truly feel that she cares about me, and I've built a relationship with her that has helped get me through some of my darkest days. She doesn't make me feel bad or self-conscious about my issues. She has a masterful way of not just providing perspective and education, but feeling like a trusted friend or confidante, but with more authority. I didn't trust this process at the beginning of it, but I knew something needed to change. I'm glad I ignored my inclinations to quit and stuck with it. As she learned more about me, I got to know more about her and how she wasn't just trained to throw book-learned things at me, but that she'd experienced real life just as I had, often, finding common ground with me and showing me that I wasn't the only one in the world suffering through tragedy. Sometimes, even though you wouldn't wish your pain on another person, it is comforting to know that someone else is going through or has gone through the same or similar pains that you are, and that they survived it. Sharon has been honest and open about her own issues and how she overcame or is trying to overcome them, and it makes me trust her even more. And something about writing this stuff out appeals to me much more than speaking. It's probably one of my oddities, but this whole process has just been ideal for me. It's been a few months, and the first 2 or 3, I was not committed to this process, but now, I think we are finally starting to get somewhere. And I'm grateful for Sharon (my very-concerned family is, too).

Sharon Valentino is more than just a good counselor. She is an excellent representation of what a fully committed counselor is. When I came to BetterHelp seeking guidance I was paired with Sharon! She has been my first and last counselor through BetterHelp simply because her counseling has been a great fit for my needs. If it wasn't for her encouragement I strongly believe my situation wouldn't have improved. I owe much thanks to Ms. Valentino!

Sharon has truly been an angel that has helped me to have a perspective on the extreme grief I've been having since my mother's passing 2 months ago. I'm not sure I would be ok had it not been for her insight.
I cannot recommend her enough!

Sharon has been awesome. She raises questions and ideas in my head that I don't even think of and gets me thinking in the right direction. It's like she's able to realign my thoughts with reality and finds a creative way for me to be positive.
I was originally assigned a different counselor and almost quit using BetterHelp. I figured I'd give it another try, and I was reassigned to Sharon. I'm glad I did. She's been a great help.
