About Me

Hello and Welcome!
My name is Shawn Markey and I am a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in the state of Massachusetts specializing in the myriad of issues surrounding Drug/Alcohol misuse, Anxiety, Depression, Legal/Behavioral, Communication and Parenting. I incorporate a Person-Centered, Existential approach to therapy while utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Support Building and Mindfulness to aid with pressing concerns while clients are encouraged to take a deeper dive into behaviors and experiences which may be causing repeat negative experiences. For those who are unsure about what might be causing interference in your daily life, yet looking for change, I will utilize Motivational Interviewing to help identify the true issues and create a comprehensive treatment plan to work towards both short and long term goals.

I have 7 years of professional counseling experience in both clinic and private practice working with people from diverse backgrounds and ages after close to 15 years of counseling in various high school settings (Catholic, Private and Public). I believe in a warm, inclusive approach where we will work together to identify goals, build support and self-esteem. I will then challenge you to go outside of your comfort zone, at an appropriate pace, to gradually incorporate change and learned coping skills to better deal with life issues. I encourage clients to better understand the felt sense in order to guide you on life's journey and learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

Asking for help is a sign of strength! I commend you for seeking someone to connect with and make the changes necessary to live a more fulfilling life. I look forward to working with you.

Shawn is fantastic. Personable, engaging and understanding while also helping offer valuable prompts to help reframe your perspectives.

Shawn strikes the right balance of comprehensive understanding, effective recommendations and humor which makes my sessions with him more memorable and accelerate the changes I've been looking for. I'm super grateful to him.

Shawn and I have had several sessions now, and I find him to be quite effective. He has been great at both listening to me when I just need to vent, as well as helping me reframe many anxieties I have in a more positive direction. His worksheets have been extremely helpful for me!

In general I find my counselor to be a third party outside of my life to give me that insight I need when I can't observe what's going on within. I find it extremely helpful to keep me in check.

Shawn has been great. He has provided me with some implied and explicit prompts to get me to look within and figure out the answers to the "why" questions that will help me get better.
