Hello. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I have a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling, and have been working on a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. I've been in helping professions of one sort or another for 20 years helping people overcome the obstacles life throws at them. I am a great listener with a good sense of humor! I will help you define the problem that's bothering you, and help you "fine tune" the way you look at your life. My first goal is to develop a strong, trusting relationship with you, because that is the key to successful counseling.
I have helped people experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, stage of life issues, trauma, and LGBT issues. I look forward to helping you with what's bothering you.
My approach to therapy is a blend of Solutions-Focused therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and to teach relaxation, communication and coping skills. In other words, we will look at what is working for you, what is not working for you, and help you begin to identify immediate changes. We will look at how your knowledge, beliefs, and what have learned over time affect the way you behave. And finally, skills that will help you to handle frustration better will help you to problem-solve more efficiently.
What to expect from me:
*My schedule: I work in a face-to-face clinic during the day, and here online in the evenings. I work with people from all over the world, which means everyone is in a different time zone and has different schedules. Therefore I cannot reply instantly to your messages. My goal is to respond WITHIN 24 HOURS, but I usually respond within only a few hours.
*I don't like video counseling. This has to do with my schedule again. (I try to have a life and a family life too) I prefer to type messages back and forth. The advantage of this is that you and I can be engaged in conversation throughout the week. We don't have a particular schedule. If we had a live sessions each week, then you have to wait a whole week to talk to me again. But sometimes I will do occasional phone sessions. My availability for live sessions is very limited. If you are seeking someone for a weekly live session, I'm sorry, I'm probably not your guy.

Shawn Williamson was great! He uses humor to keep the conversation light and always addresses all of my concerns.
I had a very effective time with Shawn. He got into detail of my problem and his way of approaching the conversation helped me to open my mind and share all my thoughts and viewpoints. He helped me understand my strengths and how to approach to the y problem. He is very prompt in replying to my messages.
