About me
Shekita Brown is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience in the mental health field. Ms. Brown is a Certified Victim Service Practitioner (VSP) who has worked on both sides of the victim role with clients of all ages--i.e. victims of trauma, sexual assault, and domestic violence; crisis intervention; as well as therapeutic intervention to juvenile offenders. This experience led her to management, supervision, and training of other clinicians in the area of victim advocacy.
Before transitioning to private practice, Ms. Brown has provided clinical intervention with intensive in-home therapy, school-based therapy, and various forms of outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, groups, and families. She has recently worked with military families of all branches, both within the United States and in countries abroad such as Europe and Japan.
As a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her studies have included Sociology, Women's Studies, American Studies, and Social Work. She brings her Bachelor's and Masters education into her work with clients that struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, conduct disorder, self-esteem issues, grief/loss, separation/divorce, family conflict, parenting issues, relationship issues, and various phase of life problems.
In practice, Ms. Brown has used a combination of the Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) approach, strength-based approach, solution-focused treatment,and relational evidenced-based approaches; but most importantly, she is clinically focused on meeting the client's needs. She has a passion for helping others obtain their goals and learn the skills that allow for a balanced life. Her motto is: "What is not addressed can hinder success." Happiness is key.
