Hello and Welcome!
My name is Shelby Wilson and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from New Mexico State University. I have worked with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges including substance misuse, trauma, anxiety, grief, and depression. I specialize in trauma, anxiety disorders, and issues specifically related to the military community.
I started my mental health journey working in an inpatient military unit focusing on trauma, PTSD, and substance misuse. I then started working for a crisis stabilization unit. During my time there, I was able to conduct short term, therapeutic interventions and provide clients with tools for crisis stabilization. There was also a focus on developing healthier coping techniques and improving self-care. I believe these experiences have helped me develop a broad range of therapeutic services and interventions that I am able to offer.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic but typically utilize CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), and Solution focused therapy. With me as your therapist, I offer a safe and supportive space to help cope with and process the challenges and achievements in your life. I believe in helping you develop insight, strategies, and tools to use outside of session to develop your goals. I believe my role as a therapist is to be a guide while encouraging self- empowerment, self-care, and self-awareness.
