About me

I am a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in the state of Nebraska. I have been working as a therapist since 2013. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science from Bellevue University in 2010. I received my Masters of Science in Clinical Counseling from Bellevue University in 2013. In my years in this work, I have worked with a variety of clients including parents, teenagers, individuals, couples, younger children, etc. Currently my therapeutic work takes me to work with families to ensure kids remain in the home or work with families so the kids can reunify back into the home. I believe it is important for families to remain intact and my goal is to always help families to become healthier and safer together. I believe change in the family has a whole typically needs to occur for individual success to occur and maintain in the long term. I am trained in Motivational Interviewing. Clients that I have worked with experience a variety of issues including Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Trauma, Abuse/Neglect, Domestic Violence in relationships, Co-Dependency, Cognitive Distortions, Self-Esteem, Suicidal Ideations/Self Harm, etc.

I prefer to use evidenced based practices including Motivational Interviewing, learning mindfulness skills, ACT, CBT, DBT informed to help learn distress tolerance and improve emotional regulation. I believe in Client or Person Centered Therapy. Clients should be in the driver's seat in therapy as it is their lives and they are coming into therapy with things they want to work on and are important to them. I like to work on building a positive therapeutic relationship with clients, so I can identify their strengths as that can assist in a strengths based approach if necessary. I always like to tailor what therapy tools I use to what is going to fit best with each client as everyone is different. Clients will learn how their thoughts impact their behaviors and feelings and can then learn how to change those thought processes towards more positive change and lead the client to the life they want to lead.

Shelley is great. She is patient enough to listen to me vent, and offers great validation and perspective. She helps me get my head on straight without being forceful or condescending. Would definitely recommend.

I really enjoy Shelley as my therapist. She really listens, and always knows the right things to say. No matter what, she follows along really well and gives space to let you speak on everything. But still always has a response.

Shelley has been extremely helpful so far - I've only worked with her a few weeks but she's been able to talk me into a more balanced and objective space from the chaos I was in before.
