About Me

Counseling really does change lives. After practicing for over 22 years I can attest to the fact that it works when the foundation of trust is present between client and therapist. I have an undergrad degree in psychology and masters in clinical social work, however, experience is key. Life offers its own degree of sorts as well, and I have learned that clients "do not care how much you know until they know how much you care!" I care and it shows...so I have been told.
My personal experience is extensive -- providing insight into most issues of life including addiction, trauma, sexual abuse, blended families, depression, women's issues, and chronic mental illnesses. I was a director of a psychiatric hospital, tutored student interns, worked as a probation officer, mentored juveniles within the court system, and counseled the geriatric population experiencing adjustment disorders to name a few areas. As a result of my eclectic experience, I opened my own practice after 18 years.
My private practice focuses on adults and all the issues that come with relationships, children, day to day living, aging, and learning to love the self that you are. Cognitive behavioral therapy offers understanding of past experiences and this is key to change.
I challenge you to be all that you can be!
Come and learn and grow!
And I welcome the opportunity to assist you as I have so many others!

Sheryl is brilliant at what she does. She listens when you need her to and she lets you stop her whenever you have a question. She’s so friendly but professional at the same time and I’m so glad I got her as my counsellor. She’s given me multiple techniques and tools to be able to cope with an aspect of my life that I was finding very tough! Thank you Sheryl!

I have connected with Sheryl right from the start. She understands me and what I need. She's been extremely helpful. I look forward to talking to her face to face every week. Whenever I message her, she always responds back to me.

Sheryl has helped me through some difficult times. I didn't want someone who would just nod and say yes, and in Sheryl I find someone honest, who tells it how it is. She puts a lot of effort in getting to know you and she is an experienced professional. I feel a lot better after I have my sessions with her.

Sheryl is an amazing counsellor. She gives good constructive advice and is a straight shooter. She also helps you to understand by giving you examples or tells you stories and openly shares information that gives great insight. She is also quite funny and makes me laugh. She creates a comfortable and secure atmosphere for you to be yourself.

Apart from her experience which she built up during the years, I think she is truly a talented counsellor. She is intuitive, clever, understanding and compassionate. She often proves that she truly understand my feelings which she substantiates with her own life experience. When I talk to her, it feels like she is only there to help and support me, which is a rare claim and gift to have. It feels like she banishes her ego to a distant island for the sake of our session, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to help.

Written by P.A. on Apr 02, 2018 after counseling with Sheryl for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship, intimacy-related, and self esteem

Sheryl has been a great help in the limited time I have worked with her. She doesn't mess about and gets straight to the point with advice and practices that will genuinely make long term positive changes in your life. She does not pull any punches or massage your ego.

In previous, traditional therapy, I've sat across the room from professionals while they sat there endlessly repeating "and how did that make you feel." I often felt like I was paying to sit on a couch and have a chat with someone and that I could be doing this for years.

My sessions with Sheryl are infinitely and immediately more productive. It feels like there's a solid logic to everything that's going on. You come away knowing there are things you can actually do to move forward and be happy, and she will help you identify them.

Sheryl not only has the credentials to help guide and offer suggestions, she also provides a deep understanding of the situations, trauma and behaviours that haunts many of us. Sheryl has the ability to provide support and hope, especially with my own circumstances, which is really what I needed to keep going and clear some of the unnecessary fog. Thank you for all your guidance Sheryl, and really telling it how it is.

Sheryl is exactly the type of counselor I was looking for - straight-talker, shoots from the hip and no-nonense attitude but with a very kind approach and a listening ear. She got me pretty quickly and I gladly recommend her to anyone seeking help.

Written by C.A. on Apr 24, 2017 after counseling with Sheryl for 3 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship, family, trauma and abuse, sleeping, self esteem, and career

After just a few short counseling sessions, Sheryl has been one of the most influential people I've ever had in my life. I've never been able to see more clearly how I can take charge of my life and better myself (instead of exhausting myself trying to fix everyone and everything except myself). Sheryl doesn't pull punches - she tells it like it is. This is an incredibly valuable quality, and I appreciate her more than I could express. My life is completely different now.
