About me

Hey there. Firstly, I am a human who cares deeply for fellow beings in the crazy ride that is called life. By trade, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California and the State of New York with six (6) years of direct experience in healthcare, social welfare, mental health, and human service environments. My personal human experience is that I am a first-generation Irish-American woman (hence my name Siobhán that is Irish Gaelic and it is pronounced sha-v-on), who personally identifies with LBGTQ+ community and is interested in psychological research topics including existentialism, meditation, psychedelic psychotherapy, and holistic nutrition approaches to mental health treatment.

I am an independent contractor with this therapy platform. My professional experience includes working directly with those who have experienced loss, trauma, addiction and substance abuse challenges, COVID-19-related viruses situations and other chronic illness. Previously I worked as an oncology therapist in-clinic with active and post treatment cancer patients and their families. My other medical-related work involves those with chronic illnesses, actively dying humans, hospice, and caregivers support/role challenges. Also while practicing in New York, I worked directly with 9/11 first responders, law enforcement individuals and families. I am familiar with behavioral and mental health populations, LBGTQ+ community, and am familiar with polyamory and alternative relationship experiences. I would say I have extensive experience working with diverse populations of adults and adolescents but am quite frank when it comes to an area or experience that I am unfamiliar with. Also my professional experience extends to being a writer, public speaker, and lecturer. I choose to extend my spreading education of mental health to the public as I believe education of emotional intelligence and awareness of social injustice is vital to humanity; I am happy and grateful for the opportunities to do so.

Anyways, throughout my experience I have found that every human experiences challenges. And the process of discussing them out with an independent, unbiased fellow human does help patients find the answers within themselves to live a prosperous life. I believe that being human we are bound to experience the natural losses and challenges that life comes with. Our work together will help discuss it together to find out answers and ways to process those experiences with a hope for the future.

I approach every individual as a fellow human and use my bubbly personality and genuine curiosity and compassion to develop rapport. I draw on experience in emotional anatomy, mindfulness, and holistic counseling for sessions that provides a safe, open space for the process of discovering, healing and transformation. Using these interpersonal skills in session nonchalantly that can include clinical approaches such as Narrative, Acceptance and Commitment, Emotional-Focused, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectic Behavioral modalities. I would say my lighthearted and enthusiastic personality encourages personal expression, courage, and interconnection through speaking the narrative that is the story within you.

FYI! Let it be known that I do work full-time as a clinician in the medical field and am a professor at a local university. So, I tend this virtual private practice in a specific way. For scheduling I choose to block my calendar and schedule clients the "old fashion way" by penciling you in myself after we chat. If we agree, we will have two video conference assessment sessions. If we jive together we will formulate a therapy plan together. If not, no worries as I encourage you to find the provider whom you feel a connection with for a successful therapy experience. I can provide referrals or you have the freedom to change clinicians on this platform directly.
