About Me

Greetings! I am thrilled to be given an opportunity to share a little bit about who I am as it will hopefully provide insight about my approach in counseling and most importantly how I can help you.
First a little about me, I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Biology and I received my Master’s in Professional Counseling while attaining Honors (Kappa Delta Pi). I have also been in the mental health field for 14 years and a licensed mental health counselor for six years. I have worked with individuals in diverse settings and with diverse populations. This includes acute intensive hospitalization to outpatient treatment and crisis while serving a conglomerate of diagnoses.
With this being said, I love my work and I love helping others see the beauty that life has to offer and feel joy in their lives again. Each person that I have met and served has given me the wonderful opportunity to become a stronger clinician in the mental health field. I have cherished learning about their heartaches, their trials, their dreams, and their desires. While we are all capable of love and becoming who we really are, somewhere along the way, we lose that piece of us. Somehow, we believe we are incapable of reaching our potential and we deem ourselves unimportant. I am here to tell you though that that is not the case.
My approach is very holistic as well as eclectic as I follow various approaches. These approaches acknowledge the sanctity of every background, belief, race, and national origin. It is salient that I learn about what it is that you believe, how you grew up, and how perhaps those differ from who you really want to be. Who you are is beautiful and unique and embracing that is vital to tackle what it is that is making you feel stuck in your life. The therapeutic process is a journey where you can remember your worth and give yourself space to grow and recapture the essence of who you are. This takes time, however, and so patience is key. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you on your life path. Thank you so much for taking tour time in learning about me. I hope to work with you soon.

I have just started with Somer, and while I'm a little slow to respond she always messages me back in a timely manner, and if she hasn't heard from me for awhile she always follows up. She's extremely kind, and approachable -- I look forward to continuing me sessions with her in the future.

I love the way she understand my needs. She speaks with me on video once a week and messages me several times a week to see how it's going. I like her very much!

Somer is genuinely empathetic and understanding, and makes me feel like she truly wants to help. She’s responsive and a great communicator - asking helpful questions that both provoke reflection and help to simplify things in my mind. Thank you Somer.
