About me

Hello I am Dr. Kornegay and I am currently taking clients that are serious about therapy and not just hopping around from therapist to the next. I understand we need to find the right fit but please be respectful in how you do it, simply tell the therapist your plans and concerns instead of just switching.

Please note that the first session with me is considered an intake session which means we discover your needs in therapy, goals and come up with a treatment plan, then schedule for follow-ups and duration.

However, if you are looking for a pocket therapist, one that you can just text when you run into a problem and expect them to tell you what to do, I do not offer that. I offer real therapy, working through your issues, mood dysregulation, making healthy changes.

MY MISSION: Sophia’s mission is to provide a warm inviting atmosphere that will enable you to find your strengths, create effective goals leading to successful interventions.

MY FOCUS: As your therapist, Sophia will encourage, challenge and motivate you so that you may be empowered for growth and making positive changes.

TECHNIQUE: Sophia believes that each person is in charge of the paths in their lives. Therefore, she believes in working from a client-centered approach which gives you the client the lead. She also believes that therapy is best from a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Sophia also works from an eclectic perspective in therapy, meaning she draws from more than one modality and uses the best-suited blend of therapeutic intervention based on the needs of the client. She utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy which enables her to focus on helping the client move forward rather than focus on the past. Additionally, she integrates the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). For couples needing pre-marital coaching, first or second marriage, she uses the PREPARE-ENRICH program.

Very straight forward therapist, she listens to what you need and create a treatment plan based off of that, very collaborative with the patient. I love it!
