Have been talking with DocF for about 3 months now and have found it very helpful so far. She has the expertise and firsthand knowledge to weave through and dig down through whatever may be bothering you, and to provide resources and figure out how best to address it.
I have had depression and anxiety for over 30 years. I've tried many different therapies from a lot of different therapists and just about every medication anybody could think of... none of it really helped. I was going through one of the darkest periods of my life, and I had ceased functioning. I had begun to accept that I was a broken person, that I had character flaws beyond fixing, that my depression and anxiety were treatment resistant, that I'd never achieve any meaningful goals, that the remainder of my life would simply be about the struggle to make it through one more day.
I decided to give Betterhelp and try because I had nothing to lose. I was matched up with Dr. Fernandez. It did not take her long to suggest that I may have been misdiagnosed, that perhaps I had ADHD Inattentive, and that I should get a 3rd party evaluation. At first I was a bit shocked. Not once in 30+ years of on-and-off therapy with many highly regarded therapists had anybody suggested that I had ADHD. Many other things ranging from cyclothymia to bipolar, but never ADHD.
I made an appointment for an evaluation, and in the weeks leading up, I began to read about adult ADHD and watch YouTube videos. I asked Dr. Fernandez for resources and reading recommendations about ADHD. The more I learned, the more I felt like there were people who understood things about my life that I could not explain. At one point, I walked a TED Talk from Jessica McCabe of the YouTube channel "How To ADHD" and basically broke down in tears, just from feeling like maybe I wasn't crazy. Whether I had ADHD or not, for some reason, implementing the skills I was learning did help my symptoms.
After a 5 hour diagnostic testing sessions, the psychologist confirmed that I definitely had ADHD Inattentive with anxiety and depression. I was still skeptical. Imagine 30 years of people telling you things, and then someone telling you that everyone else was wrong. So I went over my diagnostic results in detail given that symptoms of anxiety and depression can closely mimic ADHD. He showed me how my ADHD mapped and manifested and why it was not just anxiety and depression.
I started taking stimulant medication and combining it with new skills that I was learning. Within a couple of weeks, my anxiety and depression had been reduced to the lowest levels I can remember. I learned that so much of my anxiety and depression occurred because of the unmanaged symptoms of my undiagnosed ADHD. I had been using illicit drugs for many years to cope, something I was never proud of, but it was the best that I had. Within 2 or 3 weeks, I was able to stop using drugs that I had previously assumed I was too addicted to in order to successfully quit. The skills and stimulant medication brought me to a "normal" level of functioning that felt a lot better than drugs ever did.
I was able to complete all of the goals that we developed at the beginning of therapy. The one I am maybe most proud of was the ability to find and keep a job that I love after being hopelessly unemployed for almost a year and fairly certain I would remain that way for reasons I couldn't understand. All in the middle of a pandemic.
It's not an understatement to say that Dr. Fernandez changed my life, if not completely, then at least more substantially than anything else I had tried in 30 years. She was obviously helpful, and always available by chat, along with our scheduled weekly phone calls. I went from feeling like a speeding train with no conductor that was off the rails and headed for a cliff to a functional human. It didn't even take that long. Overall, an amazing experience.
My experience with Dr. Fernandez has been completely life-changing. I feel like I have the support and guidance I’ve need so badly for years. I am so grateful to have found a therapist that can help me heal and grow.
Ever since our first meeting, I felt confident that Dr. Fernandez knew what she was talking about and led me in the right direction with a clear goal. I appreciate her so much, and plan to continue working together.
I had concerns with online counseling because of feedback from friends, but Dr. Fernandez is incredibly responsive and punctual. She sends out a long list of questions to really understand you and what you're hoping to achieve, and then each session is focused on your specific goals. She seems to really catch on and understand what I mean when I'm babbling, which is a bonus because I do that a lot.
I am very thankful I was matched with Dr. Fernandez! She helps me to bring clarity to my thoughts and helps me shape a clear path forward. After my sessions I feel lighter and ready to tackle whatever I am dealing with. I look forward to my sessions every week! Thanks, Dr. Fernandez!
I was amazed at how knowledgeable Dr. Fernandez is with the issues that matter to me. She listens well and always has constructive feedback for me to think over and work on. She's outgoing, no nonsense, and to the point - exactly what I want!
Dr. Fernandez has been a huge help in getting me in the direction with my life that I was really unsure of how to correct things. I couldn’t have done it without her.

Dr. Fernandez is a wonderful caring and very knowledgeable therapist. She very clearly and easily understands my areas of concern with regards to health anxiety, recent passing away of my mother and work/life balance and satisfaction and suggests a multitude of ways to work on improving these areas towards my goals. She has been a breath of fresh air and such a positive influence. I would recommended her and the service 1,000%. :)
